Back to the I'm all over the place routine, I was recently gifted a cool late60's/early70's Lionel set and along with it I was also given a couple of analog control panels. These things are well built and in really good shape (They were not used with the Lionel set btw). At the moment, I have organized the wiring a little and am contemplating where and how I may be able to use them.

Wow! An awesome collection of push button and toggle switches! I am sure they will come in handy sooner or later. My father (RIP) used to work for AT&T and when they went digital they were throwing out similar panels with toggle switches galore. He took one panel home for me and I still have not used up all the toggles on it!!!!!

It is a pretty awesome collection for sure and the assembly on the is top notch work. You are probably right about them coming in handy at some point

Well, here is how they compare. Probably a bit too big but ??????

Comparing to your reference photo in a previous post they seem fairly close, judging by where they fall at the roof line. Lamp posts come in all sorts of shapes and sizes in the real world. Looks pretty good to me

In my opinion, looks a little big.

As odd as it might seem I agree with both Timothy and Mike. It does look a bit too big but lamps come in various sizes so it might work as a very large lamp.

Thank you all for the input here. I'm kind like Joe here, I agree with you all. Does seem a bit big but could work maybe. I hadn't even intended to use them like this when I bought them so if I don't use them like this, no biggie. I may go a little shorter and paint it red just to see what I get. Pluss put the shed and lights in a more appropriate setting to see what that does to the perspective.

Maybe use them in a park setting a little away from smaller structures?

Really on the fence but that style lamppost typically appear shorter than other styles when I notice them.

I would lean toward using them elsewhere if possible as @DeaconKC suggested. I had a similar situation with vehicles as shown below. The Oxford Diecast VW is 1:148, the Wiking Land Rover is 1:160. The VW is about 3.5' shorter in real life. I love the candy apple red VW and will always have a place on the layout but have to keep it apart from the other 1:160 vehicles. The longer they are viewed together, the more they look "out of place".

While I'm figuring out the lights, here's some cheap entertainment from the JPT Sub

Yikes! I sacrificed my "several siding" "very long" yard to incorporate a 4-lane HO AFX/MM car racetrack that grandson likes to race much more! Being new to DCC have been testing full operation prior to gravel ballasting and adding town, signals and lights.

(ps: was surprised to see my DC only locos run much better under DCC-EX's trackmanager will prolly remove both old TYCO transformers which will leave more space for a twin-coil turnout control panel? berretthillshop's Snap Action Base, while not DCC-EX compatible, is best/only option I see for turnouts and signals?

Atlas 344 DCC Turnout Control Unit? Much cheaper but limited voltage & not DCC compat either?

I like that little pre-formed twice-around layout; sweet!

Not sure what radius that curve is on the overpass, but you might be able to fit a Unitrack curved viaduct section there (perhaps cut-down in span), if you are so enclined.

Trying out the Apple Barrel Pavement color paint George ( @mtntrainman ) recommended. Here it is applied to some black foam core board. The front section is painted and the back area where the bottle sits is unpainted. Definitely has a semi fresh pavement look to it that is nice, Thanks for the find George!

Thanks sir. Those are the good ole 9 3/4 inch curves. Very sharp. The train has a fairly short wheelbase so runs fine on those curves.

As for the over pass, the clearance is just barely at best. I have considered making a bridge for that spot but that is still on the future project list for now. :)

Yeah, I got to wonderin' 'bout that right after I hit send... funny how that works.

Maybe a wide, short, but straight warren-truss bridge would work, kinda like that one Atlas makes, but perhaps two smushed together sideways, with the middle trusses gutted, and throw some Atlas 9.75R sectional track across it?
