Well we are back from a long Holiday weekend. How did everyone do?

My weekend started by leaving work early on Friday at 5:00 and watching Jared play some soccer, winning and a nice Italian dinner afterwords. Saturday, I found out that Jared was spending Memorial Day with his dad and that it was going to rain all day, so I took a quick trip to my not so local hobby shop and cleaned him out of Tru-Color paint and paint supplies. After getting home, we packed up a few grilling supplies and went north to the Starved Rock Park. Had a good time hiking about 3.5 miles of natural beauty before finding a nice quiet park in which to grill our burgers followed by a trip to a former A&W Root beer stand. Sunday I took a quick trip to the hardware store and picked up a sheet of 2-inch pink foam for the Galesburg modules, and still had time to cut and install my scenery base on module one before heading to a graduation. The graduation and subsequent party took the rest of the day so no other accomplishments were done on Sunday. With the expectation of Monday being a wash out, I set to finishing up the decals on my GP38's. I was successful with only the number boards needing to be finished. The rain that was forecast, never came. Score another one for our local "Amateur Hour News." So before the sun set, me and the girlfriend went for a ride and a burger. All in all a nice weekend.

So how about you? What did you get done this long weekend? Let us know. Friday the 29th will be here soon and we'll do it all over again. Until then, have a great short week and...

    High Greens!

Once again, didn't do a whole lot. I sorted out 90 Kadee #5 couplers that a friend is buying off of me. That'll fund more Sergent couplers in the near future. I also installed Sergent Couplers on SD35 #2806, and number boards on GP30 #3207.

Hope to get more done this coming weekend, no big plans and I'm getting the itch again after a couple weekends mostly avoiding the layout.

Almost nothing accomplished. :( The weekend sort of slipped on by.

Well, did not get started on the bridge as I planned.

Did get the street poured on the AVRAM's Bakery kit I started last fall. Only need to put in the power pole/lines and that will done.

Contractor sanded and vacuumed the train room Saturday AM and put in the new subflooring. Sunday I purchased primer and yesterday got 4 gallons of primer on the wall. Its time to think about getting the heat/ac unit up there.

Warmth in winter will be nice. Knowing how heat rises, air conditioning is going to make you very happy, all too soon.

I started an AMB laser kit of a wood Frisco caboose. I'll modify this into a 1920ish version. Last night I added the lighted marker lamps. Next is decals and wiring up truck for electrical pick up.

That's a great looking caboose, Jim... (it's a good thing I have context here or that would sound kinda creepy ;) )

    GP18 GTW 4703 is done!

Yes, this is true. When I built my workshop, I used a Mitsubishi "Mr. Slim" ductless unit. 3/4ton. I've had 2 mechanical engineers in our office look at the train room and they both recommened a 2 ton unit. At work, we specify quite a few ductless heat pump/AC units in our office for IT rack rooms and telecom rooms that have quite a bit of heat gain. They work well, plus they are "QUIET". I've been happy w/ the unit in the workshop. One reason I'm committed to putting one in the room where the trains are running. I'm not concerned about noise competition between sound decoders and heat/ac unit.

Yes you are correct, heat rises. I need to get it put in ASAP to make finishing the space all the more comfortable so it can proceed. I will say one thing I've learned from all of this is sheet rock sanding. When my workshop over the garage was sanded, we had dust within 10 minutes all over the house. With the train room (much larger), a vacuum sander was used and we've had 0, nadda, zippo, zilch sheet rock dust anywhere in the house. That has been a good and totally unexpected experience.

This is good news. Glad to hear it worked so well. I have seen how messy it can get.

I like the color. That flat finish puts some age on it right away.
