We're back from another weekend of modeling. How did you do?

Sometimes the best plans are laid to rest by Murphy. That is what happened to my buddy from up north. Just mere hours before he was to set out to come down and work on our module project, his car broke down. In the end it was just as well as we got a mixture of snow, ice and below average temps that would have made working in my storage unit not very good at all. As a result, I took it easy Saturday, designed a Z scale track plan, worked on my N scale track plan some more and watched Jared play a game of indoor soccer before enjoying a meal with my girlfriend and her mom. Sunday, I got up early and met my railfan friend, Brian, up in Normal to head north to Peoria for the annual Train Fair. The show is small but was packed with lots of people and a few good deals to be found. I was able to score a few CB&Q time tables for $5.00 as well as new Atlas code 55 #7 turnout for $5.00. We then set out to catch the Iowa Interstate on the old Rock Island main on our way to Houlihan's curve on the Transcon. As luck would have it, we got a train. Unfortunately the lead locomotives were not Iowa Interstate but a UP and three NS locos. Next we railfanned a few locations on the Transcon before turning back south to Peoria to visit a local train shop. I was impressed with the selection of N scale items the shop had at reasonable prices. He had the code 55 sections of track I need for my modules, so I picked those up. When I'm employed again, I will have to go back! From there we set our sights on home to get dinner. All in all, a great, action packed weekend.

So how about you? How did you do this past weekend? Bench work, track laying, painting? Whatever you did, let us know! We'll come back here on Friday the 21st and start all over again. Until then, have a great week and...

    High Greens!

Not much for me. I did get the mortaring partly done on the latest brick building, but that was about it. A poorly-designed part in the basement faucet unit broke. I spent a lot of time Saturday trying to find a replacement, but when I realized they weren't available locally, I balked at spending $10 to ship a $3 part. I looked at it closely, and realized that they had used a screw that was too short, and that's why the plastic part broke right below the screw. I replaced it, and it seems OK for now.

Train shows are coming up - One next weekend, the Tour de Chooch over Thanksgiving, and then another show the week after that.

No modeling got done for me, but I am waiting to get some stuff in the mail. I ordered a spray booth, respirator and some gloves from Amazon. They were supposed to be in on Friday, but with the weather back east, I imagine that's the delay. This will be my first spray booth, it's a portable little job that folds down to the size of a suit case. Perfect for my apartment. I'll finally get to use my airbrush!

After many weeks of neglect I finally returned to the train room. I was able to get about 1/4 of my soldering done and laid some track. Had to rip up a switch and drill a hole for a tortoise that was forgotten about when I first laid it. All in all a good weekend.

None this weekend. Had to spend time with a computer, rebuilding from a known, non-recoverable Windows 8 bug.
