We're back from our first weekend of May. How did you do?

My schedule was filled with Soccer (or what I like to call Football). but I was able to sneek in a few hours of time on my bridge T-Trak module. I was able to get the track aligned, either side of the land mass built in and the one bridge abutment installed as well as some work to the middle bridge pier as well. Only two weeks to go before Ohio N-Scale weekend, so I got to move fast. Fortunately I'll be alone all next weekend as the girlfriend and Jared go to a a set of games out of town. That should leave me enough time to really get some work done. Also got a bit of time to spend with Jess the railfan Jeep and cleaned her up from the past winter. Took her out on two short trips but no trains were found unfortunately.

So how about you? How did you fare this weekend? Let us know with some text and images. We'll come back on Friday the 9th to do it all over again. Until then, have a great week and...

    High Greens!

I had all of the women-folk out of the country - wife Penny to Ireland and daughter Annie to the Dominican Republic. So, I had the weekend to myself and took advantage of it. The first job was to straighten out the trainroom, particularly the years of clutter over in the corner. That's where Phase 3 of the layout will begin to take shape over the next few weeks, connected to the original Phase 1 by a long removeable bridge. Then, back to modeling. I half-installed the extended pipe runs from the oil tanker platform:

The whole assembly is stilll loose, as I'm building the Railway Express depot behind it. You can even see the platform "floating" above the terrain, perhaps from unloading Upsidasium. Behind the platform in this shot is the depot, loosely placed for the photo, and just to get a feel for how the scene will look with a real building and not a white cardstock mockup.

The laser kit is the Munnsville Depot from Branchline trains. I've got the walls built, and the sub-roof is loosely in place. The windows are in the basement, being painted and prepared for installation this week.

Well, I FINALLY made it to one of our monthly NMRA club meetings... seems every month there's something going on I can't make it. Nice weathering clinic, and a nice layout tour.

The rest of the weekend train time was spent gluing down track on my second staging shelf.

No modeling as such, but I did do something to improve my work area.

I have one of those under-cupboard fluorescent lamps, and it no longer works, even with a new tube. Bing! An idea: rip out the innards, and replace that with a 12 volt power supply and a strip of LEDs. Out of the 40 inch strip I bought (15 bucks), it was more than enough with 16! Now I have a nice work light that uses only 3 watts instead of 15 and is actually brighter than the tube job.

And I still have about two feet of LED strip left...

I am getting low on supplies again so not much happened for me this weekend. I have started typing up my book for the layout. It gives historical info, the back story, all my building and wiring notes. It will also have maps, special instructions, rosters, and a time table.

I started rebuilding one of my NTRAK modules. On the original I used a 1/4 inch pine wood frame that surrounded a piece of blue wallboard foam that was inset down into it to protect the edges of the foam. That really did not work very well as the foam and the wood have different rates of contraction due to temperature and humidity. I kept having cracks develop between the edge of the foam and the wood. So I made the new frame out of strips of 3/4 inch plywood with a 1/4 lauan over the top. Now I have to paint it and transfer all the buildings and relay the track.

Very little accomplished over the weekend. I did get three more boxcars off that auction site, should arrive Thursday.
