I was in the dentist chair today as well. He was finishing up a riot canal. Hope you get your relief.

Saturday I got up late. I was able to run some wire needed for electronic features. I had to stop when I ran out of distribution blocks. Realized a bit too late that I needed more. The LHS has already closed up for the day. Couldn’t get any more until today (Monday) when they opened back up. Now to finish the wiring.

Sunday I had to drive a car to Colorado. Brought the train home. I finished up two sound cards by adding speaker enclosures. I also cleaned up a scratch build I did last year. The wiring for some lights needed attention and had one of the support legs needing adjustment. Now to add the sound chip and install to the newly run wiring and it’ll be ready. Also now I need to do a little paint touch up as well. [IMG]

A RIOT canal huh? Now that's some extreme dentistry.

I finally got the pickle tank cars weathered. I also ran some trains.

I had an interesting thing happen with one of the pickle tank cars. When I first tried to run the train the loco kept stalling. Since this was the first time I ran this loco with any cars I thought the train was too long. I took off some cars but the same thing kept happening. However, I noticed finally when I took one of the pickle tank cars off everything ran fine. Put it back on the loco stalled. I then remembered this car had the original metal trucks it came with still on. On the other car the metal trucks broke and I replaced them with plastic ones for an Athearn kit. I also replaced the plastic wheels with metal. I borrowed a set of trucks from another Athearn car and then everything ran fine.

    The finished pickle tank cars

I've been working on this MKT GP39-2 for a couple weeks, though the cab, nose and fuel tank parts were developed and 3D printed 3 years ago. It just took that long for me to get a Genesis GP39-2 to strip.

The prototype for this locomotive was originally Kennecott Copper 779, which had a high cab and high clearance fuel tank. The nose was cut down and the riser removed from under the cab which left it too short in height for the electrical cabinet doors to clear the roof so a portion of the cab was raised to the carbody height. These locomotives kept their original Kennecott yellow paint and were patched with orange over the numbers and anywhere work was done.

Here are the 3D printed parts that started it all:

Here it was the other day with Cannon fans and a new inertial grille.

And here it is with the yellow base paint and orange patches. I'm now about to paint the sill, roof and underframe black.

It's pretty bright now, but it's going to get dirty. In the late 80s Katy didn't seem to mind what any of their equipment looked like. These former Kennecott GP39-2s were not interested in proving otherwise.

This was a "bite my tongue" typing moment for me as well. I have had this procedure a few years back and am still glad it is over. The riot part is probably the meds talking. Anyway, if I could have had a riot in the dentist's chair, I would have. :D
