Back from another weekend. How did you do? I enjoyed a nice extended weekend to go visit the land of trains otherwise known as Galesburg Illinois and got to meet up with a few fellow Trainboard members. Galesburg 2016 Bound by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Thursday morning I set out to Galesburg with my good friend Brian and rather than just drive up, we did what has become a tradition and railfan the Transcon from Toluca Illinois to Galesburg. Traffic was a bit slow but we still caught a few trains which I'll post when I have more time. We ended the day by setting up my campsite in East Galesburg and heading to one of our favorite joints, The Taco Hideout before calling it a day. The next day was set up for both Brian's 2 Rail O modular layout and Bill and I's Galesburg City Job modular layout. Before setting up at 3:00, Brian and I did some railfanning in the area and also went to the area in which I'm modeling. Butler today by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Butler today 2 by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Unfortunately as you can see, there is not much left of the once massive Butler Building Complex. Hard to believe that this was all buildings, track and concrete not that many years ago. Also a reminder as to why I don't model present day. We then went to the new location of the show (No more Carl Sandburg College) and got set up relatively quickly. Saturday and Sunday was a blur of running trains, visiting with friends both old and new, sharing stories at the railfan bridge and the campfire and eating a lot of food. here are a few images of our layout at the show: Galesburg RR Days 2016 Saturday by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Henderson by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Transfer by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Down Forth St by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Business as usual by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Transfer track by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Industry by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM Butler by Jim Wiggin posted Jun 27, 2016 at 6:48 AM All in all, a great weekend which has me looking forward to next year already. Now to unpack everything! So how about you? Did you have a good weekend with accomplishments at the work bench or layout? Let us know, with an image or two if you have them. We'll be back here on Friday, July 1st to start another long weekend. Until then, have a great work week, stay safe and... High Greens!
I cleaned my track and removed some mouse poop. Several detail items were knocked over. Traps are now set.
Got more ground cover down. A couple more buildings and a water tank mounted. Worked on my fuel oil tank base. Got my diesel service platform started (Cut out and painted). Now I can continue the engine terminals ground cover. Picked up some trees to make a hint of a citrus grove. The small A/C unit I purchased is working like a charm. It's gonna give me about 4-5 more months a year to keep workin on the railroad. In the past I had lost the summer and part of fall due to the heat. That's about it, Wolf
I was thinking of doing some modeling on Saturday afternoon, but I got a last minute invite to some truck and tractor pulls at the local fairgrounds. It's supposed to be very hot this week, so I may or may not build something. I did buy some new, non model railroading kits on Saturday, but I really need to start doing some assembly before I'm lost in kits!
I didnt go anywhere nor buy anything either. I did get around to weathering a Frisco boxcar, weather and beat up a MKT gondola. Used one of those long tipped lighters to heat the gondola to bend, poke, prod and twist the gondola.. I chucked at set of truck axles in the mill and machine some flat spots on the wheels, it bangs it way around the MRR pretty good. Thanks for looking
