Another weekend is in the books! How did you do? Saturday was as I planned. Jess, complete with top down and I headed north to Galesburg about 10:00am. This time I shot through Pekin, Bartonsville, Peoria then onto Galesburg to meet up with an old friend and kind of a local historian of the area. He lives right next to the former Santa Fe Peoria branch so we talked for a while outside but no trains, hmmm. We then went to the area that my friend and I are modeling and did a fair amount of walking the ruins that was once an industrial area. After a few hours, some questions were answered and some pictures were taken. We then finished the day by getting a great Mexican dinner before I shoved off to home. The ride back home, late at night with the top down was nice and relaxing. Sunday, I worked more on my switching tables and list and straightened up the work shop a bit but nothing too serious to report, kind of a lazy day. So how about you? What did you get done this weekend? Let us know with an image or two if you have some. We'll come back here on Friday the 22nd to start all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and... High Greens!
Had a pretty good modeling weekend. Between playing with our granddaughter - I managed to get the window glass cut out and installed into their frames - then installed on my friends station. Got its base set up and the station's roofs installed. Just have a few vents and water down spouts to installed --- then it's finished. As for the layout, I was able to get more ground cover down in the yard and the ice deck installed. Making some serious progress. (I will get to my new bridges once my friends station is finished and delivered). Thanks, Wolf
Didn't quite get done all that I wanted. Some unscheduled "honey-do's" happened. However, I did manage to get 32 beams glued and cleaned for the bridge kit I'm building. Also managed to finish framing the curves for the long aisleway along the coal branch of my layout. Slowly but surely.
Saturday, I did a little trip over to Long Sault, Ontario, about 90 minutes drive away, to the Seaway Train Show. I spent money... One Atlas RS-1, undecorated and new in box, four freight cars and a MOW flat car/caboose combo that will add itself to my growing MOW stable. I also bought some Kadee #5s (which will complete my current MOW searchlight project), an old MRC DC power pack, a t-shirt with the CN maple leaf logo, and a ball cap that says "Just Loco"... that's all me, right? In any case, the Seaway show is getting to be larger and more successful each year. Which is good to see because two big ones, one here near Montreal and one in Ottawa, have cancelled (for Ottawa, its the second year in a row). I like Seaway because it has more used gear and thus one can find stuff that's impossible to find at the LHS. It gets me out of the house, I meet people from all around the region, and get my train fix at the same time. That's what I call a great day.
I screwed up a little late last week when I painted my track. I masked off the points on my turnouts but didn't mask the frogs, so I spent quite a bit of time over the weekend sanding paint out of the frogs and flangeways. And testing, and testing, and testing. Also installed caboose throws, but the glue I used on the foam isn't working that well, so I'll have to pop them off (the ones that haven't already during use) and re-seat them using caulk. All in all, progress, but in a two-steps forward, one step back kinda way.
