Phew! It's almost over, that dreaded month of February. Surely the boys of summer are getting ready for spring training. We'll how did you do this weekend? Well, my polystyrene sheets didn't come in as I had expected so no work on the modules but with the warm weather it was not a problem. Saturday morning I finished the decals on all three boxcars as well as got some other smaller projects done in the shop. By mid afternoon, the tie rod parts came in for my Jeep and since our primary vehicle, a 2008 Pontiac is down with a blown engine, my 1998 Cherokee is getting all fixed up as she is now the daily driver. With the help of my step daughters boyfriend, we were able to get the old front end removed and a newer heavy duty version installed. Now it's almost ready to become railfan vehicle #2! CB&Q Boxcar by Jim Wiggin posted Feb 29, 2016 at 7:22 AM Sunday I applied the flat clear on the Burlington car and re-assembled it. I had forgotten just how old this car was and was reminded as re-assembly began. The inside, stamped Kaydee, reminded me I purchased this car around 1986 or 87. Wow! I think I'll add just a bit of weathering to this car but not much as my layout is set in 1965 and this car was new from Havelock in February of 1958. I just love those Chinese red cars! The B&M cars need a bit more time soaking in decal solvent as the decal film is a bit thicker. The decals, another relic from around 1996 or so, were purchased from Alan Belcher of Concord Car Shops. Alan was a great resource for New England modelers and also my Jedi Master in airbrushing and decals. Unfortunately Allan no longer has this business so rather than let these decals get old, I figured they need to be used on a proper set of PS1 boxcars. So how about you? What did you accomplish this weekend? Bench work, track work or scenery? Whatever you did, let us know! We get the ball rolling again on Friday, March 4th. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and... High Greens!
No modeling this week - I was on the road for work. But I did manage to get some 3/4 over head shots of NOPB Gensets so I can do roof details when I save enough duckets to buy the Shapeways shell.
I had a nice haul from the train show in Sacramento Sunday and got to hang out with my buddy Chuck. The traffic on the way home was horrible!
Did a big cleanup on my layout, including all the track. Ran some locomotives that have been boxed up for a while, and test ran some new reefers that arrived on Friday.
Took off Friday and stayed home. Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Inspector each came for final inspection on my train room finish. Passed. I will probably start bench work this weekend. Starting w/ the staging yard section. HALLELUJAH!!! I'm back in the layout business
@WPZephyrFan - your pic is on Chuck's Facebook page for the world to see. But since you have great taste in railroads its ok.
The outhouses are on the middle car of the train. The pictures loaded different than i sent them. The train was inspired by the SP Narrow Gauge line in the Owens Valley of California. People were wanting to ride the train but there was no passenger cars. SP took five flatcars and added benches and outhouses to them for tourist service. The line was abandon in April of 1960
