Well we're back from another weekend, how did you fare? I was able to get all three modules down stairs and into the garage and have the tracks painted on Friday. This took more time than I thought it would because I had to take off the legs of each module, carefully get them outside, paint them, then bring them back upstairs and carefully clean the rail heads before getting the legs installed again. the process took the better part of the afternoon so Friday I just got that done as well as the graphics work on some decals. Saturday was nice and it was too hard to stay inside. After getting fitted, Ang and I drove to my favorite not-so-local hobby shop and found he was closed due to a show he was attending. We got our kicks by driving old Route 66 to Atlanta Illinois and had lunch at the famous Palms Diner. The food was great and we spent some time walking the calories off by touring this historic town. We got to see one UP local blast through town and to my surprise and dismay (didn't have my camera with me) a spartan cab SP Geep was the lead locomotive. RATS! I spent the rest of the day underneath Jess the Railfan Jeep installing a new starter and working on her transmission, then flushing the Cherokee's heater core so we stay nice and warm since it sounds like winter is back this week. Sunday was the train show in Peoria. The weather wasn't as good as projected so we did not go railfaning but Ang came with Brian and I and we had a good time touring the show, talking to old buddies and stopping by one of my favorite diners. The weekend was busy but fun! So how was your weekend? Did you get everything done that you wanted to get done? Let us know. We'll all come back here on Friday the 26th and start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and... High Greens!
I got one liner foot of the layout cleaned of the detritus that has landed there the last 3 months . . . . #smacksforeheadhard
I was able to draw up three different version is an extension for my layout Friday. After that I got sick so nothing else done.
Took a couple pictures of my new (birthday present) SP Lark cars and WOT school bus (see modelling photo thread). Also received an Accutrax II Speedometer (family knows what to buy for me); but then spent most of yesterday reading one of the new books I received.
I actually got quite a bit accomplished. First -- I started on a long waiting project: A pair of SP DS-117 class H12-44's. I also started a building refurbish project (Completed 2 out of about 6 buildings) and I was able to work on my roundhouse. Thanks, Wolf
Saturday I had a little time to set track and turnouts in place to see how things will look once actually installed. Also set up a test rig to figure out how I'll install the servos for my turnouts. Sunday was spent at the club for a special Sunday afternoon Ops session. 8 of our 10 members made it - it was the first time in quite a while that the aisles were that crowded. Our local short line (FGLK) went through with a trio of SD38-2's in the lead just before we started our Ops session. Our club is in the Skaneateles Junction [Hart Lot] NYC station on the Auburn road, so when we hear them coming we just step out our back door to watch them go by.
I went to the HOUSTON train show (sorry auto correct does that, I can't stop it now) and ended up broke when I left but 1 kato sp ac4400 with a up patch dcc EQQUIPED locomotive for $78 (again auto correct) the only problem with it is that it screams I even lube it, any suggestions, and I also got 9 con cor trailers for $5 a pack of 3 each, 2 red caboose opera center beams $12 each, 1 intermoutan CP rail bath tub gondala that was $10, 2 roundhouse BC rail 50' boxcars $10 each, 1 kato business car $10, and 1 micro trains Union railroad of Oregon 50' double door (they both slide!) boxcar for $10, and 1 athearn coe box truck for $5, all of the freight cars and the loco were from the same table, I am really pleased at what I got, a bit sad about the fact that the ac4400 screams as it was dcc so I could not test it as the usual n scale club was not there (ri-straws club). It was an awesome day and I ended it with RAILFANNING (again auto correct).
Saturday we had a rocket launch, and the team of students I'm mentoring for the TARC rocket contest did a test flight. Unfortunately, they had a motor malfunction and the parachute didn't eject. Lawn dart from 800' and the rocket was a total loss - 2 eggs (splashed!), altimeter, airframe, etc. We had to dig the pieces of the nosecone out of the dirt with a shovel. On the bright side, they already had a backup rocket about 80% complete, so they're still in business. Sunday I got to lay a little more track on my switching layout.
Got some roadbed installed....the hidden racetrack on left, the new extensions from the top canyon line and the yard....FUN!!!
