Welcome back everyone. I hope you had a good weekend and got a lot accomplished. I had forgotten there was a big game on this past weekend until I heard a lot of people rooting for the team that was associated with a musical genius. I did not know who they were talking of, so I tuned in and waited and soon saw the musical genius, Paul McCartney, in the stands. I had no idea he was a Kansas City fan or even an American Football enthusiasts. Some sarcasm set aside I did not watch the game much as I have not followed Football in many years, but I hope those who did, enjoyed it. Now back to trains.

Saturday: Freezing rain greeted me as I got up to have coffee, so there was no sense in going to get supplies for the car and layout and going north for an oil change. I stayed home, was able to rig up a nice LED light for the work bench then lay the first piece of track on the HO layout. With the last of the glue and no wire, the celebration was short. Around 3:00pm the temps went back up and we ventured into town to pick up oil, oil filter and some other basic maintenance items needed for the car as well as glue and wire for the HO layout. The wife treated me to a hamburger and strawberry shake for dinner and once home, I was able to wire up the first turnout and glue down said turnout before going to bed.

Sunday: We got up just as the sun was coming up, got ready and loaded my car up with everything then set off for the hour and half trip to Angela's dads. Once there, the car was put on the lift and the oil was changed along with the filter, tires rotated, fluids checked and filled, a new wiper on the real lift deck installed and finally resetting the oil change light. She'll be good for another 3,000 miles or more. We then picked up Grandma and took her for an early dinner and had a nice visit. We headed home and there was just enough time for me to call my dad while getting my window green house and seeds started. After that the weekend just kind of evaporated.

So how about you? What did you get done this past weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 14th, Valentines Day. Until then, have a good week, stay safe and healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Good morning all! Happy cold/rainy Monday. This weekend went as planned. We had a great birthday dinner Saturday. The Mrs put on "the Ritz" as usual. So Saturday afternoon I helped her for a while and then yesterday AM we cleaned up and got the house back to normal.

Modeling time was spent decaling some cars and also working on the LCL Warehouse. I laid out the back wall and was able to figure out how everything wll fit together. Next task there will be getting the upper story height correct to align w/ the elevation of the trestle siding.

Also yesterday afternoon, I ran some trains. With a 2 freighters making their runs on the mainline, I took care of some long needed switching in Monterey. Picked up some cars that had been sitting for some time while setting out new ones.

    Have a great week!

Here are a few switching photos...

    Hi everybody
I hope you had a nice weekend. I have had and continue to have a lot of detailed work on the Fraser River. Culverts, river side, burner grille, bears and boats..... 20250210_132036_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132050_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132056_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132129_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132152_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132227_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132533_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132543_copy_1280x960.jpg 20250210_132822_copy_1280x960.jpg

Did not get as much done as I wished this weekend but I did manage to paint my RS-2. Bowling went well as I was over average and the team won 5 out of 7 points.

Saturday went to the club but did not stay long as freezing rain was expected luckily I got home and then got pizza before it started. It was almost impossible to get down the sidewalk to walk the dog due to the ice, stayed on the grass so we did not fall and it is still icy this morning.

Sunday did the laundry and worked on an ACF covered hopper and a 40’ boxcar. Did not finish anything.

Still battling with the heater. We are still getting the hammering and have two radiators that are not heating. Service guy is scheduled for later this afternoon. Unfortunately, we have a single pipe steam system. The problem we are having is too much water backing up into the steam pipe. This probably means that there is a blockage in the return pipes.

The weekend was laid back. I ran a few errands on Saturday to the grocery store, pharmacy, and Kohl’s for Amazon returns. I did some laundry, but not as much as I needed. I did not watch the Super Bowl despite the hometown team being in it. I occasionally checked in and we did watch the last eight minutes of the game. I was surprised that the celebrations did not do much damage in Philadelphia this time around.

I ran trains for a time on Saturday. On Sunday I spent time tuning up a bunch of rolling stock.

Well, not much train related this weekend.

Friday, I never left the house. I just did some homework, a few loads of laundry, kept an eye on our Axel, our new dog and, most importantly, watched grandson Quinn for the day. Not terribly productive, but enjoyable all the same.

Saturday, I really didn't leave the house much either but at least went for a 2.5 mile walk with my wife and the dogs in the morning before the ice started. I also finished my homework and turned it in.

Sunday dawned cold and ice covered. My truck didn't start after two days of not going anywhere (yes, I know, it's time for a new battery) so I put it on the charger/jump starter, and once started, it took another half hour to de-ice it enough to head to church. Not surprisingly, church attendance was way off with many (wisely) choosing not to go out in the icy weather. After church we had some lunch, and then I took Axel to visit my friend (and train club member) Lynn, at the rehab facility where he continues to regain function after his stroke last fall. From there Axel and I headed over to the train club and picked up some mail, but between the icy weather and some game on television, no one else was there. So, we went home, watched a lot of NCIS and finally went to bed.

Axel has been with us for a week now and is starting to settle into our routines and is becoming more comfortable and familiar with us. I will probably make his first vet appointment today or tomorrow.

I hope you all have a great week.

Another relaxing and productive weekend here. After running a few shopping errands and some housework, I continued on with finishing buildings on my Japanese themed modules. The current building has looked like this first photo for about 14 years. It's part of a shopping complex.

    2024TBLP35.jpg

The building is one of a pair of modified Tomix corner buildings that form the entry to a shopping arcade. In this photo both are shown along with the rest of the pieces that make up this scene. By the end of the weekend the one on the left has almost been finished and a start was made on the building on the right. A tile floor pattern similar to what is at this location was made on the computer and printed out.

    2024TBLP45.jpg

Here is another angle of the scene. I am really happy to be getting something done on this after it sitting unfinished for so many years.

Friday, I took Allie for her weekly visit to canine camp My wife was at the petfood pantry. I had the house all to myself for a while. It was eerily quiet. I did some much needed straightening up of my stuff, (it drives my wife crazzy).

Early evening, on the way to picking up Allie, my wife and I stopped for pizza. Across town we had to pass a three alarm house fire. The houses were probably built for workers at the former steel mill. They were built close together in a small cluster. Three families homes were involved. Fortunately nobody was hurt.
When we got back home I soldered a few more splices on the fifty conductor control panel extension cord.

Saturday I took Allie for a nice walk at a local park then had to head over to the petfood pantry to help recieve a load of donated dog food. I made it home before the sleet covered everything with a thick coat of ice.
After dinner I soldered a few more leads on the control panel extension cord.

Sunday I went through some coats. Over the years I have amassed a lot of coats some were my father's and uncle's hunting coats from the fifties to the eighties. In my 33 year career I was given quite a few coats, sweatshirts and windbreakers for various organizational achievements. I was hanging on to them with the thought of never having to buy another coat or jacket. It's time to pass them on to someone who really needs them.
After diner I soldered a few more conductors for the control panel extension cord. While I don't watch football, my wife is an Eagle's fan. I could tell who won by my wife's cheering and by all the local fireworks. Allie slept through the fireworks.

The first track laying is an occasion. (y) That model forty is really coming along. "Ran some trains.", sounds dreamy. The Fraser keeps getting better and better. ;) "Did not finish anything" is what I am the mayor of. "Ran trains for a time.", also sounds dreamy. Watching grandson is "sorta, kinda" train related (in the long run). Giving coats is a fine idea. (y) I hope everybody is staying warm and dry. (y) Last week saw a rework of the L&N boxcar markings. I was snagged by my own rule: "If you don't like it now, you won't like it later." So, I removed the railroad name and slogan and redid them better. Thursday morning was more car markings preparation. I had to remake some of them as well. Right now, two ATSF boxcars are in the "build shop". The first I "accidentally" ("Assidently" as my middle child used to say in her childhood.) ;) installed walls to deck before installing side ladders, doors and car markings. I worked around that and got the second one in the correct order. (y) Now we need ladders and brake wheel and brake platform on end walls next. Then...end walls to deck and side walls. Then the rest. This past weekend I kept seeing Super Bowl lix. Huh? (Roman, I know. :D) This week as I said will be more boxcar building. Hopefully, some will be completed. Have a warm and fine week. (We had Summer here last week.)

    Pic of the redo.

While I was hoping to get some work done on my elevator project, I actually got something more important accomplished. My ex has ben nice enough to let me rent a room from her while I look for work and said that I could set up a build space in her garage. That is almost finished. I just need some power for my light, my compressor, my spray booth and my dehydrator:

I had fun working, well messing around with the plastic water :) Others were interested in it too. It's great for quick water.

@in2tech - The canoers seem impressed by the plastic water too! Nice.:)

The weekend had it's ups and downs.

Friday: I was able to spend some quality time with the boiler. Good progress.

Saturday: Got the domestic responsibilities finished. Had enough time to move the boiler from the lathe to the mill and get things aligned.

Sunday: Morning soccer match was a disappointment. While consolation bacon is not as good as celebration bacon, it is still bacon. So not a total loss. While the Super Bowl was on in the other room, I was able to focus on the boiler. Actually watched a few minutes while we had some takeout tacos, chips and guacamole. Finished the boiler during the second half. I like this one.

There is more work to do, of course. I attached the domes. The stack will be attached later. I want to see how it will look with number boards and other smoke box details before declaring it done.

Today I was able to put on a coat of primer. That will cure for a while before working on the smoke box. Next up: Painting the frame, pilot truck and brakes.

    Stay safe,

I set out to build a few turnouts and I ended up with three more #8 RH. Now I need a double double 90 degree crossing. I could just skip the crossing for now and keep the mainline construction moving, then cut it in later. Not ideal, but that may be the way to go. I have all the other required track to move ahead on Old Colton. I think I just wrote myself into my next steps.
