Another weekend is in the books. How did you do? Winter worked it's magic for me yet again. In a weekend that was to be a busy one with many projects planned, I ended up with a killer head cold. So this weekend was spent mainly sleeping and getting absolutely nothing done. This coming weekend, I have to work a model airplane show so the trains will have to wait for a few more weeks as my project list grows. So how about you? Were you able to get everything done you set out to do? Let us know, with a picture or two if you have them. We'll get back together on Friday the 14th and do it all over again. Until then... High Greens!
I did quite a bit of modeling, including some 3d printing. It still amazes me what can be done, and what the future holds. This was printed all as one piece. Just mind bending to me still, and I have printed hundreds if things... Kent in KC nvrr49@yahoo.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
That 3D printing stuff is getting interesting. How well does the material take paint, and what kind of glue do you use with it? I went skiing over the weekend. That's how winter works its wonders on me. It was very cold, but the snow was very nice, and I had a brand new pair of skis, too. But, I haven't been in the train room now since Thursday. I did manage to post one picture, from the work I did on my "snow day" last Wednesday: The sandy depression in the lower left will be another small pond once I pour some Envirotex into it. Guard rails by Pikestuff, and the tree stump is from Musket Miniatures.
That's very good looking grass and shrubbery, Mr. Beasley My Zombie Shelter, and my two least-favorite trees which will be replaced someday. Finally got some lights up in two of my trailers. I think that's enough drilling and headache for now. It looks like some people are home/up, and some not.
Wasn't able to do any work since Thursday. Now I will be on a hiatus this week until I get my taxes done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
I went to the train fair Sunday, and picked up another loco (Athearn PA1) and a few freight cars. Nice little venue with a waiting area with seating and coffee, so no one has to stand in line before the doors open. The PA1 is real old-school Athearn - no flywheels, and not much weight in the frame. The horns are missing, and the lamp seems to be burnt out too. But it runs well overall. I took out the constant lighting circuit from one of my GP7s and replaced it with a DIY light board. One LED of the two burns out chronically - I checked and re-checked the circuit, and electronically, it makes sense. Every time I put a new LED in, it goes kaput after a few minutes max, if not right away. And the loco seems to have some kind of mechanical problem when the shell is on. So Dr Mike still has some operating to do on this patient.
I usually prime first with a rattle can, but sometimes I just go straight to craft paints, so anything will work. I print in ABS, so it will solvent weld to styrene and acrylic. Kent in KC nvrr49@yahoo.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
