Well another weekend is in the books. How did you do? What is that saying about plans and mice and men? I had set out to do a bunch of things in the shop and completely forgot that the schedule would revolve around everything BUT trains. Saturday was spent at the soccer field then some home repair as I had to replace a leaky facet which meant going to the hardware store. Sunday was spent tearing apart a noisy clothes dryer and replacing a bad belt and two worn out rollers plus spending so time out on the lake with some friends. A very fulfilling weekend getting things accomplished which always feels good. I did manage to get some operations done and currently planning an informal open house / op session in about a month so not all was lost on soccer and domestic duty. So how about you? What did you get done this weekend? Let us know. We'll come back here on Friday the 26th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and... High Greens!
I managed to get my trestle ready for installation. I also prepped the layout for it. (reset the riverbed depth- went from about an 8" deep gorge to a approximately 3" deep river bed). The depth bugged me from the moment I set the original bridges and trestle. In my head it was a great idea - but, in practice - not so much. Just didn't fit. Here is the trestle: Thanks, Wolf
^ Awesome bridge work. This week I finished laying track on the staging/fiddle yard.. including the engine, "cabeese" tracks. Also got the wall behind Abemarle City framed. Even dug out the "Ad-Hoc Mills" building I put in storage 8 years ago. It was wild pulling that building out after it had been boxed and sealed in plastic and packing peanuts that long. Didn't have time to start wiring the yard, but I did force myself to spend about an hour late yesterday cleaning the train room. The building was in pretty good shape after being sealed for so long. Couple of window frames had fallen out and some soffit trim had come off. I'll have to pull everything + those stupid peanuts out of the box and find the parts.
Still putting off the ballasting in Weaver Junction. I did realize that the best way to identify any rolling stock with issues was to swap them into the mix and do some switching ops, so I did a quick "find and replace" on the switch list to update the roster. Spent a while pushing and pulling cars, and really putting them through their paces. Two cars were set aside for repairs and/or adjustments, and overall this has been a great way to get my inventory into shape.
Got the scenery work on the JACALAR yard really started. After the rewiring/relaying of the track in the yard, I had this (for the turntable end) two weeks ago After this weekend's work and a more track-side view
I got my daughter involved and put son faces on some orange pony beads and made some pumpkins. Put those on some LED light strings and now I have some pumpkin light posts to add to my park:
