July is now a memory as we push forward into August. How was your last weekend in July?

Friday night after work, the family and I started the 19 plus hour drive to my home state and arrived Saturday afternoon. We were exhausted but still had a bit of time to catch up with some family before getting a proper nights sleep.

As you can see at the top, I still managed to get some railroad time in. On Sunday, my Father and I went to the small town of Union NH to visit an impressive restoration of the past. Live steam was running in a garden in front of the restored B&M station, a former BAR snow plow sat alongside the still active New Hampshire Northcoast RR tracks and inside the restored freight house was one of the best representations of the B&M I had ever seen. A group of modelers got together and with the support of the town built a HO Scale representation of the area as it appeared in 1909. The picture above is but one of the many I took while talking with the talented modelers. So I still got my railroad fix in and ideas for my own modules.

So how about you? What did you get accomplished this past weekend? Let us know. We'll be back on Friday the 5th to start all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and...

    HIGH GREENS!

I managed to get a few things accomplished: I painted both Pratt through truss bridges (Now they are ready for installation), I assembled all 20 bents and the stringers for my new trestle and -- I got to a long over due project. I have Walther' Medusa Cement -- I have wanted to open up one of the bays. Got that done. Have the inner walls cut out and ready for paint. One of next weekends projects.

    Thanks,
    Wolf

Not much this weekend. Was out of town visiting and got back Sunday afternoon. Did have a couple of hours to spend on the bridge effort and a few other things. Should be back at it in the trainroom this coming weekend though.

I finally finished the rewiring of the JACALAR yard, and all feeders are now connected to the power buss. I then emptied the train shed of everything on the floor, and scrubbed it clean (last major floor scrubbing was three years ago). Amazing the amount of grime that accumulates in that long a period.

I really need to get out of this rut of not getting any modeling done. I get gung ho about doing something during the week and then on Saturday I'm just..."Nah."

It's powerboat racing season, with events being streamed on line. Next weekend is the first NFL pre-season game, and thereafter....... Argh. Too many possible diversions for wasting precious time!

After a visit to the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, quite an experience, by the way, especially since I have a personal connection to WW2 - my parents experienced it firsthand in Europe as teens... so my gratitude towards the military, both past and present, is very deep.

Back on topic, I've just about finished a searchlight car to add to my growing MOW fleet:

It's on the left of the crane and flatcar I did a few weeks ago. In the foreground is my next victim... errr... project... yes.. project.

Actually it's a work in progress at this time, the Kadees are on, the paint is done, and the decals are drying. I've also changed the wheelsets with something several notches higher in the quality ladder.

More fun than a barrel of monkeys. Cheaper too - the per barrel price of monkeys has gone through the roof.:D

Sounds like those arduous repetitive projects might have a time slot. I usually make wire tree armatures while watching football. Its something less precise and adjustments can easily be made later.

I know how that goes. For me and a buddy from work, it's car show and racing season. Fortunately (or not), the racing I watch isn't on every weekend but there seems to be a car show almost every weekend!

With help from the N&W Yahoo! group I was able to make a 3D model of the propane tank and brackets found on many Norfolk and Western cabooses. I printed it through Shapeways.com and got it in the mail Monday. Here it is cleaned and installed on a modified Atlas caboose:

It still needs paint and weathering, but the prototype is white, so it doesn't look bad from a distance.
