Well we are back! Hope you had a great weekend. After so many late nights and lots of work, it was great to relax by playing with trains! My buddy from the great north came down Friday night and helped me get my modules loaded into the Cherokee and before we knew it, we were up bright and early Saturday morning and headed to the train show at the Lincoln Square mall in Urbana. Saturday Set up at Lincoln Square Mall by Jim Wiggin posted Apr 4, 2016 at 7:17 AM We were able to get Bill's 5 Santa Fe modules and my 3 CB&Q modules up and running in about an hour and we had no trouble getting everything level. Dirty track was our only real problem. By noon we had set up cars on all of our industries and started switching our industries before setting out cars to the interchange track. It took a bit of time because we would stop and answer questions such as "Why doesn't your train go in a loop?" or "why are you guys moving freight cars?" and of course our favorite, "Why is your layout so high?" Once explained, many of our observers had the light bulb in their heads "pop on" and they got it. A lot of fun was had Saturday before leaving for pizza and watching a railroad video on Vermont Rail. Sunday we set out to do another operations run which took all but two hours of the show, mainly because we would stop and visit and talk with friends and visitors. Here are some images from Sunday, all CB&Q images are mine and the Santa Fe are from Bill's modules. I want to publicly thank them for a great show with a great turnout and both Bill and I are looking forward to setting up here again next year. Now we work on getting more done for the Columbus N Scale Weekend in May which is almost 6 weeks away...YIKES! So how about you? What did you accomplish this weekend? Train shows, open houses, railfaning or working on your latest project? Let us know, with pictures if you have them. We'll come back here on Friday the 8th and start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and... High Greens!
Nice shots for the show. Wish we had more shows in the Raleigh area. That's fun stuff to do on a Saturday. This weekend I got bench work finished that will eventually hold Albemarle City and the buildings from my last layout. The riser that is sitting on the bench work (left side) was actually salvaged last week from the remnants of the old layout. Slowly but surely, I'm getting there.
Hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend!! Wasn't able to get much done. (As I suspected). But, I did get the expansion joints scribed into my two parking lots - and the base coat painted. Thanks, Wolf
I am now about 75% moved down int o the new basement layout space. Final clearing will proceed this week, and then take down of the upstairs benchwork is probably on line for Saturday.
Jim: Great train show photos. Until the mall was torn down our club used to do two train shows a year in the mall. As for getting anything done on the railroad. No I didn't. Still been getting things out of the train room so I car rip out the mushroom growing carpet
Got an ESU LokSound Select installed into an older (non DCC friendly) Kato SD45 (Frisco #945). Even added a cab-top rotary beacon, using an 0402 surface mount LED, and orange painted 3/32" styrene tube. Still have a couple final clean up items to do (like a bit more sanding down of the inside of the shell so it sits correctly, before photos/video
I got my Rix Guthrie Grain kit pretty much finished this weekend. 001 by WPZephyrFan posted Apr 2, 2016 at 6:48 PM 002 by WPZephyrFan posted Apr 3, 2016 at 2:21 PM 12472763_921964627902000_3886716515396585310_n by WPZephyrFan posted Apr 3, 2016 at 2:28 PM The elevator leg and one of the bins are painted to simulate older galvanized steel while the other bin is recently installed. The bright band on the bottom of the other bin is supposed to be where it was extended.
Didn't get much done. I'm still looking for my good bin of HO scale figures, but I did find some and am finally getting the town populated.
The cars are fascinating. Trying to recall what years for them all. Even a little Metropolitan in the mix. Cool.
I like the Imperial and the Continental Mk II in the top photo and the Mercury and Caddy in the bottom.
That's when cars were real cars and you could tell a Ford from a Pontiac. No kamakazie specials around either. Where did you get the Nash Metropolitan? Great work Chet
Yes, it was a different era back then. Every fall people were waiting to see what the new cars were going to look like. A new body style just about every year. I got the little Metropolitan at the same place I got the white Nash Rambler in the first photo. The problem is that I can't remember where. I am always on the lookout for HO scale vehicles that are correct for 1957 and when I find one, I get it as I don't want all of the cars and trucks to look the same.
It was a big deal. I remember all the print, radio and TV ads. Which might seem corny by today's "standards", but they were far better for any real information and actually interesting.
I still have my jacket from the Camaro club that I was a member of when I owned a 72 RS. Man, that was a long time ago.
Here's my Camaro. Placer Gold Metallic RS with a white vinyl top and interior.. This was the day I got it. I kick myself just about every day for selling it.
