Well another weekend is over, hope it was productive for you.

I finally found my cord, so now I have photographic proof of weekend modeling accomplishments, so onto the results.

I finished my friends CB&Q work train, this is just a stock Atlas caboose. I masked the roof and repainted it Grimy Black, then airbrushed a mixture of earth, dust and rust on the car body.

The load is two MT flat cars that I painted and weathered the decks, painted the trucks then airbrushed my mixture on the car bodies and decks. The I beam already had the AZ Cardinals logo, I simply lightly airbrushed some dust and grime on the load.

Finally the stock Atlas VO got some paint. The windows had dull coat on them, but after a quick soak in alcohol the windows were good as new. I used Michael Spoor's books on the CB&Q as a guide for weathering.

I worked on finishing the Christmas stuff, updated my blog here on Trainboard and worked on the layout. Hopefully tonight new track gets laid.

So how about you? I heard there were plenty of shows this weekend. Anybody brave the cold for some railfaning? Maybe like me, you simply put on a pot of coffee and stayed in your work shop. Whatever you did, lets see it! We'll do it again this Friday the 16th.

    High Greens!

Had a great rail weekend here. Got to see my old pal and former drummer for the first time in over 10 years. He and I were the major train nuts of the band. (Eventually, the other band members caught on to us when they noticed gigs and the routes to get there were suspiciously close to trains on a regular basis.) He also brought me my dad's old O-scale locomotive set, which I think is an E1 (A-B-A):

Anyone got any idea who made this beast? It could easily eat all of my N-scale stuff and come back for more!

Anyway, we also got to go to the train show here in my town (which has been running for the last 6 years without me knowing!). The kids dug it and we had a blast:

Plus we got to go in the caboose and the old depot/museum. Lots of fun, not to mention research for my next diorama:

This is going to be based on that depot (my cardstock model of it, anyway) and the track and passing siding. Should be a nice little photo diorama when complete.

My club ran three layouts yesterday at a nursing home/assisted living complex. We had our 20'X20' HO modular layout, an 8'X8' Lionel layout and a small N scale layout on display. The residents and their visiting families enjoyed the show and we had a good time running the layouts for them. No More shows now until March 2012. We need the break.

We did the bi-weekly grocery shopping. We also got a little Christmas shopping in. Friday night we got the Christmas tree and spent the weekend decorating it. On Sunday my son participated in an Orienteering event with his Boy Scout troop. Also on Sunday my daughter had a meeting of her Venture Crew.

I did get to clear some more things off the layout. Another step closer to getting it ready.

Some progress, but kind of slow and tedious stuff. I got all the walls put together for the main buildings at Mooseport. I sprayed the brick color on and applied a wash for the mortar. It came out a bit too white for my tastes, so I've still got to see if I can either wipe some off or tone it down.

I finished up an article I was writing for one of the modeling magazines. Now we will see if they publish it.

That's looking great, Rick. Are you going to light up the signs on the Gulf station?

Yep - there are roof signs which light, as well as the interior. As can be seen, haven't done anything on that front section yet, except "place the buildings". The Gulf station is the Miller Engineering kit, with the lighting.

Well, this weekend I tried my hand at some scenery. This is my first layout that has reached this stage. Spent a good number of hours at this and am pleased with the results. DSCN0291.jpg DSCN0295.jpg

Got a lot of decaling done:

    2 Conrail coil steel cars
    1 Conrail SD60M
3 ADM Corn syrup tank cars

Also did some work on my highway overpass, all painted just needs a little weathering and installation.

Laid another 6 feet of rail in nearly inaccessible part of the layout, this really tried my patience for hand laying. Seriously considering Peco or ME switches and flex track on the next two levels.

I determined that trying to make my trains run an insane 12% grade was just that... insane. So I started on re-working my track plan on XTrackCAD for level 2 and 3. Unfortunately, all trains will have to operate on a push-pull basis due to the lack of room.

Boy I sure did not get as far as I hoped. I managed to remove all locos and rolling stock, rough place where I want the backdrop supports to go and that is about it. Installed new tv in living room for family and felt ill afterwards and pretty much rested with a cold / flu bug that I am slowly shaking off today.

No modeling at home, but I did operate on the Claremore & Southern RR Saturday. I worked the yard as a trimmer, and my locomotive was a Frisco (of course!) GP7 in black & yellow.

Bit delayed, I know. I managed to cut all the trip pins off my entire Walthers Passenger Car Fleet and sand them down via my dremel. (One coupler seized up and is being replaced. I was too afraid to go messing with my rapido baggage/coach as the screws are terrible underneath). Looks a lot more realistic now.
