The first full weekend of May is behind us. How did you do on productivity?

Despite the rain, Jared still had a track meet from 7:00am until around 3:00pm so Saturday was too busy for model railroad projects. Sunday was a bit more on the quiet side but most of my time was spent on a model airplane project that is due for a club contest next week. I did do some research and reading however or using the same micro servos that are normally within the fuselage and wing of my R/C planes and using them for turnouts. My layout is the standard 3" pink foam but with a piece of 1/8" plywood underneath. I'm still not sure if I will go with the servos or the standard Tortoise for my turnouts, more research must be done. Work will continue through out the week on my Maywood station module. I'm trying to get it 80% done for the Columbus N scale show in a few weeks and 100% done for Galesburg.

So how about you? How did you fare this past weekend? Track work, bench work, DCC, whatever you did this weekend, let us know. A picture or two will not hurt if you have one. We'll be back on Friday the 10th to do this all over again. Until then, have a great week and...

    High Greens!

I went to the Ottawa Train Expo on Saturday, and had a great time overall. I found a Proto 1000 F3A/B set in CN green and gold, with numbers I didn't have yet, and a couple of books.

By far, the best was the trip there and back. Great sunny day, warm, little wind, and in the afternoon, drove with all the windows down and classic rock on the radio (nobody does that anymore, all the traffic I saw had the windows rolled up hermetically and driving as fast as possible). Sweet! A good day to slow down and enjoy life.

Sunny and dry again, with pleasant temperatures. Unfortunately, that's brought out the pollen and with no rain to wash it away I'm trying to stay indoors to dodge it. But, that lets me work in the shop and in the train room. With the deck wood now in hand, I was able to put the finishing touches on my Tichy flat cars:

No, it's not a gruesome multi-car accident on the sidewalk. I use autos to support figures while the glue sets, and right now they're holding up lovely Rita, meter maid, until she's ready to stand on her own two feet.

I added the fire escapes to the mill, and some roof details to that building and several others.

Not quite done yet, but I cut a series of 1/2-inch posts and strung them with rigging cord to act as a barrier to errant automobiles. The steel bulkheads I built last week are sort-of installed, but the glue isn't holding well so I'll probably have to try that job again.

The weather was so nice, so yard work took over the entire weekend. Didn't get to install the signals on my T-Trak module, but it will only take a few minutes to install them before the next weekend for the show.

JimJ: Nice BG painting. I can't see the shallowness for the trees.

The biggest modeling thing I did all weekend had nothing to do with my own projects.

I worked with my kids on their T-Trak module ideas. Noor is doing a Japanese themed module, and Lucy is working on a scene with a lighthouse.

The bigger thing is that I found out recently that a model railroader friend's wife fell and knocked her head about a month ago, and that ever since she has been in a care facility and he has been unable to realistically go visit her so he's been without company for most of that time. I contacted him and went over for a visit yesterday, where we moved ahead a bit on his module. I can't believe I was so out of touch as to not know what had happened with the wife - a reminder perhaps that we need to watch out for each other.

It ahs been a while since her progress was updated.

That's how we lost my mother. I hope your friend's wife recovers, swiftly. :(

Lucy hasn't been doing much on RR stuff because she's been struggling with attention issues (not mild, but in the diagnosable range) and getting her basic homework done. This week, T-Trak modules (they're both part of a T-Trak club of 4-H kids) will be part of the homework. I have some flexibility with the teachers - as long as I am covering the curriculum I can alter the assignments a bit.

My friend's wife has been in a care facility for over a month now. They're looking at assisted living. I went over in part just to get his mind off things for a while. I'd go by more often if I could.
