Despite the colde weather, ice storm, power black out and Microsoft, it's time for weekend Modeling Accomplishments. This thread is so late because Angela called me last night to tell me that she was staying in a hotel due to a power blackout after an ice storm they had received. So one more hotel night for me. I just got back to find power restored to a cold house, fired up the computer and started Weekend Modeling Accomplishments Mk.I and was ready to sign off when Microsoft Internet Explorer decided to exit stage left. I will be glad to get back on my MAC which never had any trouble on the internet. Onward!

My weekend was spent in St. Louis starting Friday. Briefly, we started by getting the booth up and ready in record time, so the rest of the afternoon was spent at the Transportation Museum nearby. Wow! Some neat stuff there, so if your ever in the St. Louis area, be sure to check it out as they have some beutiful locomotives there. Saturday and Sunday was spent at the Carstens booth but I did manage to slip away a few times to find some long sought after items. Namely, a N Atlas undec GP38-2 which will end up as B&M #200. I also picked up a GP40 for future Rock Island project as well as cleaning out a dealer of all CB&Q and B&M decals he had. I also found some much needed BLMA detail parts and finally a cool DVD on the B&M's transition from steam to diesel. All in all a great weekend.

So how about you? Did you attend any shows this weekend? How about club open houses or op sessions? Did you stay home and work on the layout? Bench work, track work or scenery, whatever it may be, tell us about it. We'll do it all over again this Friday the 18th. Untill then...

    High Greens!

It's hard to believe that it is January 14th here. It is going to be near 60 degrees today. I got the T-Trak modules built and sealed. I also installed the Kato 62mm track sections at the modules interface. I was also able to do the last pour of the WS realistic water on another module i'm working on. During the week i'll put in the pair of main tracks and hopefully the switches I ordered will arrive by the weekend.

Got most of the Kraft mill complete from the Walters Superior Paper kit.
Not sure how I'll tackle the main building. It's way too red for my liking. Needs to be toned down. :)

For starters I finished (for the most part) the main switch at the east end of Ravenswood Yard. I went from this:

    To this:

Still need to paint the points, install the throw rods and switch pot.

    I also painted a GP7B and an F7A:

But I have a long way to go:

I went to Greenburg's show in York, PA on Saturday, got another engine I don't need, and two more coal hoppers that I found out I'll need to change numbers on since I already had them (doh). Also packed all cars and engines back in their cases, have to rework some sections and figure out my paper mill arrangement, I got a second Superior Paper kit to make the complex bigger.

My biggest accomplishment was probably getting JMRI to work and recognize my USB devices on my laptop running Linux. If anyone else is going down the same path I have some pointers I could give you.

I got some of the pieces of my On30 railtruck cut out and did some trimming to make the stake sides fit the metal deck stake pockets and some of the other pieces fit together. Also, I now have sound!

Well, the skiing was very nice...

The only rail-related thing I did was discussing rail-served paper mills in Maine. I was riding up with a guy who worked at one of the mills, and asked him about whether they were still rail-served. He said they were, but the mill was very dissatisfied with the service they got from Guilford.
