2014 is certainly on the fast track, we're more than half way through September. Better get those projects ready for the big chill of 2014/2015!

A busy railroad weekend is in store for me. This afternoon, I'll meet with my N scale club, NSBN, and help set up our rather large size T-Trak for this weekends Decatur Train Fair. Later tonight, I have a fellow TrainBoard member coming down to my place this weekend as we work on a joint project that should be on display at the 2015 Galesburg RR Days or sooner. He and I will also take in a bit of the Decatur Train Fair, railfan some former Wabash, Norfolk & Western, Illinois Central and Illinois Terminal landmarks in and around Decatur and visit the Monticello Railway Museum as they are hosting their Railroad Days this weekend, which means - STEAM! Both of us will be doing all of this and wrapping it up Monday afternoon so all in all a huge train weekend for me.

So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend? How many plan to go to shows or do a bit of railfaning? Let us know! We'll come back on Monday the 22nd to see how we all did. Until then, have a happy and safe weekend and...

    High Greens!

I should make good progress on the liftoff bridge and its lead track. I need to trim the ends to reduce the rail gaps just a bit, and then mount some blocks on the fascia so the bridge will always align properly. I've got to replace the snap switch that leaves the main line for the new layout section with an Atlas #6 to give me trackwork that's more suited to trains going to and from staging than the siding to the coal mine that it used to be. After that I can apply some plaster cloth and carve the foam just a bit deeper for the river bed.

My order hasn't arrived with the ballast I need to complete the yard area in Logan, so it looks like there will be no work done on the layout, but we are supposed to have what will be the last few warm days for the year so my 2 acre lawn will hopefully mowed down for the last time this year. With no more outdoor work to be done with the exception of plowing snow when it comes, hopefully progress on the layout will increase in the future.

The weather guessers here are saying we will hit low eighties. I doubt it. Will be looking at a caboose kit, (HOn30), but due to ongoing neurological issues, am afraid to try starting it.
