A lonely whistle disturbs the sound of of howling wind and rustling leaves as the full moon casts long shadows on a mystery train now coming into view. What is this spectral sight says a disembodied voice? Why its the Weekend Express! We're in the last weekend of October and yes of course, Halloween. Seems hard to believe that after this weekend, we enter something truly scary..... The Holiday Season. Why do I hear an evil laugh when I type that? First operations session by Jim Wiggin posted Oct 30, 2015 at 6:43 AM The past few days I have been enjoying myself on a daily basis, running a train on the layout and doing basic operations. Now that I have operated the layout a few times, I see why the track was set up the way it was and just goes to prove that sometimes our own ideas on switching is not the same as the prototype. So one of my goals this weekend is to start the paper work process of the Galesburg City Job and do a bit more reading to ensure I have accurately depicted the process. Currently, the "City Job" takes about an hour to switch but I have some maintenance issues I hope to resolve this weekend. I have a short on the third module, the Santa Fe main that needs addressed, then ties need to be glued into spaces from the flex track. Once the ties are down, my goal is to take each module down stairs to the garage and paint the track while we have warm(ish) weather. Once that is done, track cleaning and test running again will resume. I also am now planning on going to Milwaukee to Trainfest with my club, complete with five T-Trak modules. One module needs a small town set up in it as I have the buildings all built, I just now need to get the DOT busy on the streets and sidewalks. Last but not least is setting up the airbrush spray booth exhaust duct, which is part of the "button up the old house for winter" process. When you live in an old house, window plastic is your friend! A busy weekend for sure. How about you? How busy will you be? Let us know your projects, we'll come back on November 2nd and see what we all have accomplished. Don't forget, Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend. So before you hit the hay, turn back those station clocks one hour. Above all watch out for little ghosts, princess's, super hero's and goblins this Saturday, stay safe and... HAPPY HALLOWEEN! & High Greens!
Looks good, Jim. Come on over a visit Modutrak! I've got Amtrak projects keeping me busy. Building a Cabbage unit, fixing a poor weathering job on a P42, and getting more lights crammed into a B-32W.
Well I still am working on those carts. The weather has turned nasty this week so they have all been moved indoors. So Sunday I hope to do the gluing and Monday or Tuesday do the painting. From there I have the swing bridge that needs to be built. Once that is done I can lay the track and start building mountains. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
After the success of last weekend's static grass applicator, I was inspired to tackle a few things during the week. I've got a couple of flatcars lettered and ready for dull coat and some structure kits almost complete for my new switching layout. Speaking of, I need to cut the framing and assemble that. That will be a huge motivational boost.
