Welcome back to the gateway to the weekend. I hope you all had a good week and are now ready to update us on what you have planned at the layout or workshop. A lot of us had a productive weekend last weekend and it's great to see some old friends join us with updates. Let's get started.

Friday: With 2024 around the corner, I have been working late working on the budget and schedule for next year. I'll punch out early today and get a head start on the weekend. I have been exceptionally festive this year, so I plan to decorate for Thanksgiving as well as prepare for Christmas. I mentioned to my wife that We should go to Hobby Lobby and Menards, and she added Costco to the list so tonight will be some shopping for seasonal items and the rest of my 1/8-inch hardboard so I can finish the shadowbox.

Saturday: We'll be heading up to Angela's dads to re-assemble the Falcon, although my retired father-in-law seems to have had a good start. With parts all machined, painted, shiny and new, assembly will be easy. We'll take our time on getting the carburetor dialed in then look at some other items I need done before it gets super cold. After we are done with the Falcon, we'll go visit grandma and take her out for dinner before setting our sites home. Don't forget, we'll need to set those station clocks one hour back before going to bed!

Sunday: We are going to have a weather warmup so I will likely start the day with coffee and make my homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast then head out to the garage. Today's goal will be to build the outer layer of shadowbox top, sides, front valance and fascia. There are some design considerations as well to help conceal the wires from the upper lighting. I'll probably take the shadowbox down to the garage for the day to accomplish these tasks and with any luck, I'll be able to paint the backdrop as well as the wall behind my HO layout sky blue. I also have some work I need to do for the Christmas train. This year I have decided to raise it up and build a section that is wide enough for Angela to set up her porcelain village. With the power of coffee, design plans in my head and power tools, I should be able to build something in time for the Christmas season. With temps in the 60s, I'll likely have some other odds and ends placed into the mix as well.

So how about you? What do you have planned for the first full weekend of November? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 6th to report on our accomplishments. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe, don't forget to set those clocks back one hour and as always...

    High Greens!

    Happy Friday all!
It's been a crazy week full of a lot of Halloween tricks and no treats. Glad it's coming to an end. Have a couple of errands to run this evening that will consume any free time there might have been.
Saturday is still supposed to be cool but nice here. Will spend a little time at the work bench making sure I am good on the items that got painted last weekend and see if I can get some other stuff ready for paint since it looks like we might get a few warm enough afternoons this coming week to finish up a few items. Next up is to move the lumber for a project from the garage to the basement since that didn't get done last weekend. The wife has said she wants to start getting out the holiday decorations . The Thanksgiving stuff will get set out right away and then she wants to pull out all the Christmas so she can see what she wants to use and maybe try and get rid of some of the things we haven't used in a long time. Should be a full day.
Sunday after all the normal morning activities, will be continuing with he decorations work and then off to an early dinner with friends. We shall see if I can fit in any train time.
Guess we shall see how it all unfolds. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Good morning and Happy Friday. This weekend should see more modeling than past weekends. For football, NC State plays Miami here tomorrow night, but I sold my tickets and parking pass since it is an 8PM game. So I will sit down after dinner and watch that tomorrow night. It leaves Saturday wide open for modeling here as well as a few other tasks.

Saturday and Sunday I want to work on several scenery projects. Mostly getting puff ball trees made as well as working some more on the Afton Fuel and Oil installation. I also have another small building to get started that will be a country store/filling station that will sit across the street from the Afton Fuel facility. Also this week, I cut a small base for the SL cabin building and would like to get that set on the layout, ready for finish. Additionally, a list needs to be made and some things ordered. I keep walking around the layout thinking I need this, have to get that, etc. So, I need to make a list so I can sit down and order a few things at one time.

Have a good weekend all!! Turn the clocks back tomorrow night!

    Chilly clear morning here.
The handyman came Wednesday so the tables area ready for 'ground cover' aka paint.
I intend to pick up quarts of Red, Yellow, Blue, Black and White to make my own colors for terrain. The goal is to find an earth color that contrast with Kato track.
    Grocery Shopping - 2+
Saturday: Is an unknown but the hope is to:
    • Test / check out the colors of the dried paint against the Kato track
    • Repaint some of the areas
    • Work on my 'Clear Cup Re-Use Bridge'
Under the Peabody and Virginia cups are clear plastic 'cold drink' cups from Starbucks. My stepdaughter brings them home, I wash them and give them 2nd use:
    Clear Cup Bridge 20231102_195037.jpg
My wife bought the 'Bright Yellow' car for visibility. The 'Yin Yang' car is from my grandson , (14yo),who has his blue belt in Kung Fu. I bought a 3 pack of 'Virginian' coal hoppers because of where I live now and it was one of the 1st cars I received back in 1972 in N Scale.
    • Take a long walk in the fresh fall air
    • Put down as much track as I can
    • Maybe get power to the track.
    • Maybe start 'Ginormous Monster Mountain'
    • Maybe start 'Super Tall K-Cup Box Tower'
    Sunday, More of the same:
The Most likely continue with the
    • Paint - Testing different colors
    • Track - Playing round with Kato 'geometry'
    • Bridge / Mountain / Building
    Safe travels everyone.

    Happy Friday Y'all,

So, here I go again -- more home TLC. Our kitchen faucet leaks like a darn sieve -- so, my Saturday will be replacing it.

I also hope to sit at my work desk -- we'll see

    Y'all have a great weekend,
    Wolf

Today I’ve got a couple of appointments to run, so I won’t be at work until a little later this morning. Already been to the DMV and got new plates for my boat trailer so I’ll be ready for the spring. After work

My kids and wife are headed up to New York for a couple of days since they don’t have work or school until Wednesday, so I’ll have the run of the place this weekend. After my youngest daughter’s soccer game on Saturday I’ve got a friend’s 40th birthday party to attend. I’ll probably spend rest of the day on chores and errands so I have Sunday for trains.

Sunday I think I’ll try to install a fascia, put some small contours in the foam, and put some paint down on the foam, the fascia, and on the wall for the backdrop. We’ll see how that goes. I’ll also check out a couple of local-ish train stores in N. VA to see if I can get some scenery materials-styrene for pavement and various other things.

Good morning from partly sunny and cool Northeast Ohio, quite a change from the 2" of snow the other morning.

Friday, hope to get some paint on a Tangent Bethlehem 52' gon that I finished during the week, then off to bowling this evening.

Saturday, the whole day will be shot as I am going to Columbus to bowl in the Senior Singles State Bowling Tournament.

Sunday, after doing the laundry, will be decaling the gon I painted on Friday and building some kind of boxcar kit along with cleaning up the workbench and the rest of the basement as my daughter and family will be coming to visit next spring and we have a lot of cleaning up to do.

    Good morning everyone,

This weekend I'll be continuing on the yard control's for my friend's layout, making good progress there and want to keep it rolling. On either Saturday or Sunday I will make it over to the open house at the Santa Clara Historical Railroad Society for a couple of hours, that's always a good time.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Hey All,

I am working on a couple of patch-out freelance boxcars (Kansas Midland Leasing), and a few weathering projects...probably not too much time for modeling, but who knows?

The "shadow-box suspense" is really building. ;) The decoration set out sounds suspenseful too. :cautious: Seems like I need to make some puff-ball trees myself. (y) LSU/'Bama always an interesting match. "Ginormous Mountain" sounds challenging. I hope the "sit at my work desk " dream comes true. :) Good luck at the semi-distant train stores. (y) Daughter and family coming to visit sounds nice. Open house at the RR Hist. Soc. does sound like a good time. :) Kansas Midland Leasing. Interesting. First of all, I am on here late due to oversleeping this morning. That ran everything else behind. Also, the video in the new members thread took a little more time. Interesting concept there. ;) However, this past week saw coupler assemblies mounted to center beams. Yesterday I made up fifty-two wheels that will need to be installed. Note: some passenger trucks have six wheels. I think I have a working plan for glazing installation. I need to do doors first. Pretty weather here may lure me outside Saturday. Otherwise, I will be home and working on the project. Have a great and "footballicious" weekend! :D

I have been taking it easy since I got the injection in my hip a week ago. I am having long periods of being pain free. However, if I over do it my hip reminds me. As a result, some chores have been piling up around the house and I hope to get to them this weekend. I did get some time last evening to organize some of my locomotives and put them in bins. I have been updating my inventory program.

This weekend I plan to get the Halloween decorations down and put them away. Finish the laundry from vacation and begin to tackle the regular pile. I also need to put the suitcases away. I need to begin winterizing the bond but since that involves being on my hands and knees that will depend on my hip letting me do so. We have errands to run like the grocery store, pharmacy, and produce store.

I want to continue to update the inventory program and organize the locomotives and putting them in bins. I have a few that do not fit in the boxes they came in and I need to figure out storage for them other than sitting on the layout. I have couplers to change out on some rolling stock and perhaps I can start a building kit.

The Laval hobby show is on tomorrow, Saturday, and the next day, Sunday! I'll take the Early Bird entry and hope to find something to tickle my fancy and takes care of my two-week late 60th birthday present. Also hope to find a bunch of freight car kits to keep me busy on heavy weather days (when I'm not shoveling any of that heavy weather...).

Kid in a toy store time!

My model railroad efforts this weekend will likely include building 7 #8 turnouts for the end of staging. If I get up some energy and my back is not killing me I may mount and wire up the tortoise for the five mainline turnouts on the west end of my West Colton yard. I can also add the filler ties to the yard ladders and then the ground throws.

There is plenty to pick from.

Model railroading will be fun when I get to run some long trains on my layout.

Huh. I didn't get much done. I added the filler ties and am shopping for a solution to control the mainline tortoise before moving on.

Maybe I am looking for any reason to sit still and watch football. Honestly I have a difficult time moving forward without knowing how to complete a project to satisfaction.
