It's weekend Modeling Plans time once again! I have a busy weekend ahead of me, so busy in fact, it bleeds into next week. Saturday, I'll be getting the last bits of hardware for my N scale modules in prep for my buddy who is coming down for a few days to work on our joint Galesburg project. Sunday, I'll be headed to Peoria IL for the Peoria Train Fair and to meet my friend, tour the show then head north to Galesburg. We plan to use what daylight is left to photograph the are he is modeling on his modules before heading to the local big box stores to stock up on foam, hardboard, lumbar and hardware then make the trip back south to my place. We'll spend the next few days, getting the final bits of sub roadbed on his modules done then installing cork roadbed and finally track. With any luck, we should have trains running by Wednesday. After this weekend, the N scale layout will have to go back into storage as the O scale three rail will be coming out once again in time for Christmas. Wow, where did the time go? So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend? Track work, paint work or a train show? Let us know. We'll be back on Monday the 17th to see how we all did. Until then, have a safe and productive weekend and... High Greens!
I'll be mortaring the brick walls on that building, and thinking about the interior. I don't even know what I want it to be yet. It's not rail-served, so I'm not trying to tie it to any particular rolling stock. I'd like to get to fixing up some equipment, too, like the couplers on my Rivarossi passenger cars that keep separating and the loose tender truck on that steamer. I replaced the original plastic couplers on the coaches with Kadee #58s, but they are loose in the swing-coupler boxes. I will either shim them a bit to reduce vertical play, or maybe just replace them with #5s so they'll be less sensitive to vertical motion. I'm retiring shortly, though, and I've got to settle on all the details of Medicare options. I did get the Social Security stuff started, along with Medicare parts A and B, but that's just procedural. Next I've got to choose from a myriad of health coverage options. Gaack.
I hope to work on a track plan for my new N scale layout! :-D It will start off as 2 2x4' modules, with the anticipation of being expanded once we buy a house. I will post a plan once I have it a little more complete.
I went to the Great Train Show in Puyallup, WA today. Pretty much the same players but many of them were willing to give some pretty great deals right from the gates opening. Came away with a bag full of stuff and a few bucks still left in my wallet to boot. Did anybody else attend? Brian
This sounds different from what I recall being usually reported. Good news, but I wonder why the change?
Its been my experience that many sellers at this venue only want to sell their stuff at retail prices until the last few hours of the last day and only then will they offer any sort of a discount. Today however seemed a different story. First guy I stopped at had 4 new Concor autoracks for sale at $15 a piece. Not a bad price but before I could get my wallet out and buy one he said he'd sell 'em to me for $10. Couldn't turn that down so bought all 4. The next guy had a semi trailer that I kinda liked for $5. Was again going to buy that but he then offered me 13 of em for $15. Well then "just fill up the bag" I said. Loads of intermodal containers for a similar deal.
I was going to attend the show as my club (The United Northwest) was there with the layouts. However, due to a death in the family, I am not feeling in a social mood this weekend so I stayed home. It has been my experience though at this show that deals are NOT on the agenda. If you want to score some good bargains, you either attend the Boeing swap meet or the show my club hosts in Monroe every February. Ryan
Glad you found some people that gave you some deals Brian. I have to laugh at most of the yahoo dealers at this show. There is one guy that is there year after year that had advertisements of 30% off! Well when you look at his table it is 30% OFF his marked price which is about 40-50% OVER retail. So there REALLY is no deals to be had. There is also another guy there that attends this show every year that has old Minitrix locos from the early 80s marked at $80-$90 each! Ryan
