Another week is about to be in our rear view mirror, so whats in your windshield?

I've decided to spend a day Saturday with just Jess, a camera and some trains. Yup, I'm heading to my favorite haunt, Galesburg IL. The plan is two fold really. To enjoy some alone time driving cross country in Jess the railfan Jeep, get some pictures and do some research. That's three.. Oh well. I'm in hopes to get in touch with a local historian as well as visit the Library and Galesburg RR Museum to see what I can find out on my friend and I's N scale modules. I'll be spending the entire day researching, taking photographs and generally being a foamer.

Sunday I plan to work on my modules. I finally broke down and spent a few nights on making a switch list for the Santa Fe and CB&Q. The Santa Fe version is accurate right down to the fonts used, while the Q version is up for debate. Hopefully I can resolve that this weekend. I made the switch lists 5X7 so two fit per page on the PDF file and can be easily printed out. I'll end up printing them on a slightly heavier and tan(ish) colored card stock for the proto meet next month. The 5X7 also fits nicely on those mini clip boards, making switching less bulky. The next project is to get a list of all the freight cars for the layout and place the road, number and type into a data base, then figure out a simple program to come up with switching scenarios. Sounds boring but I like doing that kind of thing.

I'll probably work on some of my buildings as well as the time is ticking for the Prototype meet.

So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend? Let us know! We'll assemble again on Monday the 18th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and...

    High Greens!

I have a few things I can work on. I am going to redo my river scene. I will be removing 3 trestles and replacing them with a shallower wood trestle and replacing the giant Micro Engineering trestles with a 3 part bridge (Utilizing the ME end pieces and replacing the center with a Central Valley Pratt Truss bridge) the new bridges will be approx. 3" high instead of the existing 8" high. The scene wasn't working for me. It is to darn deep. And - I hope to finish my friends O scale depot.

    What I am replacing:

This weekend I plan on finishing up some detailing on benchwork. I have 2 places that need the "curved" edges, plus quite a few legs need angle bracing. Time permitting, I also want to "possibly" get down some plywood where my former Albemarle City buildings will reside. Here's a shot of those buildings on the former Albemarle Division before they were removed and stored.

Tomorrow I drop my wife and granddaughter off at the airport, so I'll be flying solo for a couple of weeks. Plenty of free time to test track, install caboose throws and get some ballast down on my switching layout.

Probably no modeling for me. A friend and I are going to the Hillsborough Concourse D'Elegance at the Crystal Springs golf course on Sunday. This will be the third year that I've gone (my friend has gone a few times before inviting me) and the featured marks this year are Mercedes Benz and Chevrolet. There's always something there that I've never seen before, so it should be a great time.

Tried to attend a hot rod rally and parade this morning. Light rain and cool. Hardly anyone was showing up. Dismal, disappointing. Guess I'll clean a bit in the future train room and maybe do a coupler conversion or two.
