Good morning from somewhere in New York State! I'm east bound on Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited and ready for the weekend! The reason for my trip is to visit on of my favorite model railroad shows, the Amherst Society Railroad Show or as we Native New Englanders like to call it, "The Big One!" My good friend and Railfaning buddy, Brian and I are heading to the show in celebration of him beating cancer. I've been many times but this is Brian's first so it should be a fun experience for him. We'll be looking for deals and eating the local food before heading back on Monday. So if you see a big guy wearing a BNSF hoodie, it's probably my buddy Brian. I on the other hand will blend in as I'll probably be wearing my Red Sox shirt and Bruins hat. So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend? Track work, scenery or maybe some kit building? Anyone else going to the Big Show in Springfield Massachusetts? Let us know! We'll come back on Monday the 1st. Until then, be safe, have fun and... High Greens!
After spending the week digging out from the blizzard, I get to drop my wife off at the airport early tomorrow for her week in Vegas. That means plenty of hobby time for me. I hope to start laying track on my switching layout, and at least run some circles on my other.
I hit my LHS hard yesterday. Restocked my supplies and I am ready to go. First on the list starting today will be decoder installations. I have: 2 P42's to install 1 RSD 4/5 1 RS11 I had a friend of mine help with a couple of installations in two of my HOn30 locos. Well he fried one so I need to reinstall that one and finish the second by hooking up the lights. I also have a third P42 that I am going to remove the 8 bit decoder and replace it with a 16 bit decoder. After that I will see how the weekend goes.
Rapidly approaching the completion of benchwork. I will have one blob area completed today, aside from a couple supports i will need long-term. I am aiming to have benchwork completed and laying track at Ravenswood Yard and/or Grantsville by the end of February. Sent from my PantechP8010 using Tapatalk
I'm hoping to finish my Fred and Red's Café kit and maybe start on my grain elevator kit. Been really in the mood to do some modeling!
This is going to sound weird, but I am planning on starting a small (3' x 5') simple oval, with a single turnout to a single diagonal spur track. No scenery. As the JACALAR continues to get finished, I have noticed that it is now more difficult to use the layout for testing locos, speed matching, etc., what with the no-lix on both "simple" loops. The programming track I have off the roundhouse is fine, but I thought "why not build a plain unitrack board, easily stored, with one spur which can be isolated for a programming track. Will drop feeders from every section, and make a simple single plug wiring harness to connect the Digitrax Zephyr to the board. Will use a DPDT to switch the isolated spur from Ops to Program track. I would also be able to carry this to shows, along with JMRI laptop.
I plan on doing something similar eventually only a figure-eight so the locomotive turns both left and right. I'm hoping to get a base foam layer down on my doors and get them coupled together with some old door hinges. Maybe even get some track pieces set out and run something. Not sure how much modeling I'll get to, this weekend. Hope to work on my TOFC loading ramp, water and oil columns and a small bulk oil distributorship. Thanks, Wolf
