Welcome back to the gateway to the weekend. Pay no attention to that Friday the 13th, we have trains to discuss! I hope you all had a good week and are now ready to transition into model railroading. We had a busy weekend last weekend, let's keep that pace up. Saturday: While not strictly model train related, it is train related. I'll start the day with coffee, then assemble the display that makes up our Christmas Train display. After 20+ years of using O27, I switched to S or American Flyer and built a new display. On one end is a simple table with the curve, complete with snow, then two long straights affixed to 1/2 - Ply, then the return loop which wraps around the tree make up the oval. 30-inch legs hold up the "benchwork" and allow the effect of the train running around and through the tree. It also is even with the picture window facing the street so folks can see the train go by in a homage to the old window displays of past. This past week I finished the wood legs with polyurethane and I'm now ready to set the display up and get the tree up. This might take up all my time Saturday. Sunday: My goal is to 100% finish all the Christmas items on Saturday so I have Sunday to work on the N scale shadowbox. I picked up the last bit of wooden trim which I would like to glue on, then carefully disassemble the box and stain it. I still need to cut the access for my NCE panel, but I should be able to get the stain on and at least two of the three coats of polyurethane. Once I have this done, I can finally get back to the actual layout part that has been on hold since last March. Once everything is cleaned up, the shop will become a wrapping station until after Christmas. The wife hates wrapping presents and since I enjoy it, I'll be performing my duties once again this year. So how about you? What do you have planned with the days leading up to Christmas? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday, the 16th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and healthy and as always... High Greens!
Tonight-relax and try to wrap some presents. Among those-I get my daughters a piece of rolling stock for every birthday and Christmas. My oldest will be receiving the last car of the Kato Milwaukee Rd Hiawatha set and my youngest will be receiving an Atlas 4750 covered hopper with CATX reporting marks and a cat’s paw. Saturday-I’ll wake up and do some dishes and laundry. If the weather holds I’ll see if I can get some bulbs in the ground. Afterwards I’ll clean up the workbench in preparation for Sunday-it’s become a mess as I drop in to experiment and mock up a building or do volunteer work and then leave. Sunday-I’ll glue the 1” foam down for my elevated section. I swear I mean it this time. While it dries I’ll revive my layout build thread with photos of progress. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Happy Friday to Y'all, Hope Y'all had a great week. Tonight's the night. We fly to Zurich. Then on Sunday morning we drive to family in Austria. My involvement with Y'all will be limited, for the next two weeks. -- I'll stop in here and there to check in on Y'all -- so, Y'all better behave - hahahaha Happy modeling!! Y'all have a great weekend, - Stay safe Wolf
Greetings all. @SP-Wolf .. Safe flights there and back. Enjoy your Christmas there. This weekend will not involve much, if any, modeling. We are hosting our annual family/close friends party tomorrow. Usually about 25 to 30 folks show up here. So today I am scurrying around w/ thissa and thatta setting up the house for the masses. Also have to get the smoker set up, I always grill a bone-in turkey breast for this thing. This week I did thoroughly clean the train room, spruced up the layout, and set up a couple of trains to run. Guests always wander up to the room to check out the trains and watch them run. Have a great weekend everyone.
Happy Friday!!!!! Saturday is pretty booked up but Sunday I hope to get some decal work done on a couple of freight cars. The annual Winter Layout Party thread starts up sometime today so I will need to plan out what I am doing this year as well. Hope you all have a great weekend a safe travels to @SP-Wolf and everyone else travelling!!!!!
Not much modeling this weekend, going to the company Christmas Party this afternoon, then its bowling in the evening. Will be helping out during the club open house as we are open for visitors the same time the Strongsville Historical Society is open. Rick Jesionowski
We have shadow box anticipation. Cat's paw! How cool! Yep. Me try to behave.... @Kitbash have smart guests. Ahhh, the Winter Layout Party! Christmas open house says it all. This past week was PS1 a buildin'. More of the same until done. Have safe travels and a happy weekend.
More of the same. Both of Taptons boards are now clamped to trestles, Most of the feeds on Board A are hooked up and tested. Board B will be a repeat of the same process I'm ignoring the turnout wiring for now, I'll just tape the blue and yellow wires up for now As each section is proved I'll peel of the masking tape for that section and paint it the same colour as the feedwire The Purple is the Down Main line and the Orange the Up main. Leading off the down main the feeds to track 1 on Board A is Purple with white stripes. So I will paint the white bands first then paint it all purple when dry It will all make sense when I turn the panel over! Kev
Progress on my MDC HO 2-6-0 kit build is coming along swimmingly! By no means underwater, I attached the main rod and cylinders to the engine and the second set of drivers. The nine-volt battery didn't have the oomph to keep it running, so I switched to my spare MRC Tech II power pack and used alligator clip hookup wires to connect it. This is the phase where one learns that keeping those cylinders aligned is critical to keeping the machine running. Once the boiler is attached, there won't be any more movement of the cylinder assembly. Very happy. On the subject of the boiler, I started painting some details on it in gold paint with a paint pen and some Tamiya Tape as masking. Not bad results so far. Very happy with that too! With this kit, the slow and deliberate approach is well-advised. More details - and photos - coming soon in my build thread.
