Hard to believe, but its now November. It's gotten colder and the days after this weekend will be even shorter. Right now it's time for Weekend Modeling Plans! The big R/C airplane meet that I have been working on since late August is this weekend. In fact, I'm writing this from my hotel room in Columbus Ohio right now. So as far as I can see, there are no real model train activities planned this weekend other than talking about it as some of my fellow pilots/modelers also model HO, N and Z. So how about you? Is track work in your plans? Maybe scenery or bench work? If you were in Sandy's path, how much clean up do you have a head of you? With that said, please think about our friends in NY, NJ and CT as well as the other regions that were hit so hard with Sandy. Please give a prayer or better yet see what you can do to help out. Many families were impacted so hard. We'll come back here on Monday the 5th and see how you all did with your projected plans. Until then, have a happy and safe weekend and... High Greens!
I ran home yesterday to be with my wife for our first ultrasound with the new pregnancy. Everything looks great, still going to be nervous after last pregnancy / stillbirth in 2011. Back at work today and Saturday and home Sunday. We can use the OT, so no modeling this weekend.
We had 27 hours without power, but no real damage. Trees took out power down the road, but our house and yard survived intact. Foul weather has kept me from sealing up those decals, but by the end of the weekend I should have all my F7s back in service. I still haven't decided on whether to start work on the tanning company complex at one end of the layout or the carfloat terminal at the other. I'm kind of leaning towards the carfloat, because the first part will be the apron and then I can build the fold-down benchwork extension for the float itself. I'd like to get the carpentry done before the cold weather sets in, because I hate working outside in the garage in cold weather. The Patriots are off this weekend, but I may still have some quiet modeling time in front of football to work on the caboose project, too.
Lost power because of the winds of Sandy last Monday evening. Estimates of when the power would be restored was at a week to ten days. Tuesday morning I went up to my weekend place in Delhi NY., lights heat and cable TV. Came back home this morning. Still no power. Then tonight about 7:30 the power came on. The show my club was supposed to be at tomorrow was canceled because they have no power. So now I have another week to get ready for a show in Poughkeepsie NY next Sunday the 11th. I'm going to work on the T-Trak module some more.
Probably get some modeling in. However, on a sad note, the Houston railfaning and modeling community will be saying goodby to and celebrating the life of a good friend at a memorial service. It will be held at a church in down town Houston tomorrow. He passed away on October 16th. A lot of folks I know will be attending. He was a good personal friend and fellow train chaser on trips we took to such railfan Meccas as St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago and yup, Longview, Texas. Rest in Peace Tom.
