The first week of June is done, time to get ready for weekend two!

Well, like a broken record, my weekend is filled with work and family commitments. Regardless of all that must be done for my annual trek to Galesburg, I must do the family and work thing first. As such, I really do not have a lot planned this weekend since I will be at a soccer fields all weekend. In any spare moments within the workshop I may find, I will be working on my SD70 ACe projects. After a week of soaking, the paint finally came off. With any luck, the units will get a coat of primer today. Once these two SD70's are done, I can take a break on "projects" and just do some activities I want to do instead of a deadline. I have been doing the whole "deadline project" thing since last October and I'm getting burned out. So after Galesburg I'll probably do more rail fanning than model railroading, although I would like to work on that layout.

So how about you? What projects do you have this weekend? Are you under the gun for anything? Whatever your project list is, be it deadline or a more relaxed approach, let us know! We'll all come back on Monday the 10th and see how we all did. Until then, have a happy and safe weekend and...

I've had enough. I have decided that the number one project is now to fix that bit of faulty trackwork on the far left side of my layout. It's almost good - I have no problem with most of my cars and engines, but a few will derail, only sometimes, and it's time to put an end to it. It also happens to be in the corner with the liftoff section where the tannery will be, so this is the last chance to do the job before scenery gets in the way and makes it more awkward.

Enjoy those days on the soccer field, Jim. I coached girls' soccer and lacrosse as Annie was growing up, and attended lacrosse games once she got to high school and us volunteer coaches weren't needed. I miss that, and I'm sure you will, too.

I may need another thin layer of Envirotex on the carfloat platform. The first layer is still a bit sticky, telling me I didn't get it mixed thoroughly enough. Perhaps I'll give it until next weeked. It's not as bad as it was a few days ago, and may just harden naturally by itself.

I was at my LHS yesterday and I picked up a couple of Tichy undecorated boxcar kits - one steel and one single-sheathed wood. I plan to use these for "Hide Loading Only" service for the tannery. It was common practice to use a last-job-before-the-scrapyard boxcar to ship hides between the slaughterhouse and the tannery, because once you started using a car for hides, you'd never want to put anything else in there. No, I don't plan to model the odor.

Our first lobster dinner is scheduled for Saturday. Yummmmmmmm.
