We’re back from another weekend and hopefully it was a productive one for you. Let’s gather around and see how we all did. Saturday: We’ll the RC car swap and sell was a huge bust. I didn’t sell one thing so it’s off to the online auction site for this stuff. I did get to have lunch with my good friend and fellow Railfan, Brian. We enjoyed some good Mexican food while getting caught up on the local model railroading scene. It won’t be long until we get to do our annual “Good Friday, Great Railfanning” adventure in April. The rest of the day was spent with Angela and Lucy. Sunday: Was very productive. I managed to finish two more jigs to make future modules easier to build including the leg mount drill guide and a slide table for my table saw. The slide table allows me to router a 1/8-inch channel on the modules sides so that the three cross braces lock into the channels for extra strength. Building the slide table made production of these channels an easy and accurate affair. By mid afternoon, I had started the construction phase of the first module from the two kits I had made the previous weekend. I also finished the other half of my slot car table while the module was clamped together and drying. I then cooked dinner for Angela, wrapped up some details and called it a weekend. So how did you do? Did you finish your tree project? How’s the painting and detailing going? Let us know. We’ll come back on Groundhog Day, Friday the 2nd of February and not only find out how much longer winter will be but what we plan on doing again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and as always... High Greens!
Final details on the Hi. And look! The close up shows me a bit of paint to fix next to the vestibule on the tender! And added the trail truck brake hangers, more paint needed,
I went to the Springfield train show and now I'm sick. I think its the flu but from what I've been reading it could be flesh eating bacteria. I got a nasty cough , perhaps I should avoid the Dremel tool for now ? RSS
Saturday: I messed around with my AC-4 and MK-6 --- and, installed a decoder in my AC-9 Sunday: Messed around with my Intermountain AC-12 (Not to happy with it)-- I installed decoders in my MK-5, MK-6 and GS-5 (GS-5 is a work in progress - I think I may have a bad decoder). That's about it. Was a nice summer like weekend --- temps well into the 80's----blah!! Hope Y'all had a great weekend, --- Sorry to read that you cam down with a bug, Randy!! Get well soon. Wolf
Another batch of trees completed. These look a little better than the first. Now I need to start planting them.
Saturday night I finished forming the rail for two switches on my Nn3 Christmas display. I looked around for a computer fan and hose to cobble together a fume extractor for soldering. Started feeling a sinus infection coming on so I held off on soldering. Spent yesterday feeling nauseous, sleeping and watching TV, didn't feel up to working on trains. Still feel like crap, but thankfully I don't have the flu or flesh eating bacteria!
I finished my wall art...it is a replica of a Pacific Electric destination sign that would go on the front of an interurban....
I painted a sheet of of steel with Valspar Island Orange, and then applied a vinyl mask that a friend of mine made. I then shot the letters with Krylon gloss black before peeling the mask off…I chemically rust the sign with a mixture of vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and salt.
Still messing with track plans for my new N road. With the old layout gone, I'm seeing the space in a new light and want to explore options. It's a healthy exercise though; I'll eventually move ahead with confidence that I've worked up the best plan.
I found a nice, small-footprint coaling tower for my layout, and a couple of vehicles (an old-school VW Bug and a '78 Pinto Cruising Wagon). That was at a small model train show/market not far from here, but it seemed farther because it was a snowy day and being Sunday, the snow clearing was somewhat lacking. Had fun anyway with my 4WD!
