So I have a can motor, one if these...

Power in my locomotive goes through the frame (brass Climax). Right now, if I use a multimeter on continuity mode, it shows that I have continuity between the can of the motor and the frame.

But, if I touch the frame and either of the motor tabs together, no continuity.

If I connect a decoder to those tabs, gonna have blue smoke or not? :D

Basically how much of the motor has to be isolated?

From what you described, only need to isolate the tabs. In other words, you don’t need to isolate the motor body itself.

Thank you for confirming, always better to confirm with others before emptying electronics of their blue smoke (y)
