Just getting into the hobby. I don't have much room to work with, but I want to have a few overpasses etc on my layout. My question is, is there such thing as too much foam on the base of benchwork? Say could I put 6" of foam as the base? Was unsure if that would cause any issues, such as more noise, etc. Thanks!

It could be an issue if you want to use undertable turnout controls. I only stock the foam up where I need to to make my overpasses. I use 1" foam for most of my layout.

My benchwork work drops down where it needs to (my main has no elevation changes).

I had actually thought about undertable mount issues for turn's etc. I think I may have came up with a solution for that issue, if I dig out the area I need to lay the switch part and cover it up with a few things, making sure obviously that it does not interfere with the switch mechanism.

I have 4" of foam from my HCD tabletop to the track level. I have another 14" to the top of the mountain. So, no, you can never have too much foam.... :)

No foam at all under track but lots of foam to build mountain.
