Yes Iowa Interstate has EMD's in the form of GP38-2's and SD38-2's. Today it was the latter. SD38-2 153 leading the charge at Fairfax, IA on the uphill climb. 153 at MP 9. One of the coal hoppers the Iowa Interstate uses via an agreement with NS. I bid the train goodbye at Wright Bros Blvd to head back to Cedar Rapids. The breakdown was-- Power---153, 157 0/95 cars(95 empty NS coal cars). 5000+ feet long.
Buddy, nice shots. As a totally "igernant" diesel guy, what is the difference between an SD-38 and an SD-40 or 45? I do know that GPs are four wheel truck and SDs are six.
I sure enjoy seeing those colors. So classic, and classy. Is there an up to date IAIS roster somewhere on line?
An SD38 is a roots blown V16 16-645E powered loco of 2000HP. An SD40 is the same, but the engine is turbocharged and gets 3000HP, an SD45 is a V20 version of the turbo'd 645 @3600HP
