Hello All, Allow me to introduce myself... -My name is Don and I live in Phoenix, AZ (actually Peoria - it's a suberb). -I've been armchair modeling in N and HO scale off and on for about 20 years although I must admit I've only recently gotten out of the chair and into a club (Arizona Model Railroading Society). -I finally own a house with a room to dedicate and have just began the planning stages of that endevour. -I prefer the late steam/early deisel period to model although finding quality steam locomotives in N scale at an affordable price is a challenge at best. I currently own the following N locos: 1 KATO Mikado (Canadian National) 1 ConCor Burlington F3A (Powered) F3B (Dummy) 1 LifeLike UP FA1 (Powered) FB1 (Powered) 1 ConCor Big Boy (UP of course) -I have only have about 18 cars (5 passenger, 13 freight) but this will grow fairly quickly. -I prefer the more detailed cars even though they cost a bit more. -I've converted most of my cars to MicroTrains couplers (N scale - yes I know Z scale couplers are more to scale but I'm almost 40 and have trouble enough seeing the parts in N scale) -I work as a Software Engineer for Honeywell programming avionics for commercial aircraft. That's about all the pertinent stuff I can think of for now. If there's anything else you want to know, feel free to ask.
Don,welcome to Trainboard. You'll find we are a friendly bunch most of the time and always ready to lend a helping hand with good advice and encourgement.
Welcome Don! It's always great to get some new N-scalers on the board. Do not hesitate to ask questions as there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. We here especially like pics of your layout (hint hint!) Welcome Aboard! Russ Hoffman Valley RR
Don, Welcome to trainboard I hope you enjoy this site and make this your home. If you have any questions feel free to post one or you can email me as well. Adding microtrains couplers as you go is a good idea as it reduces the task if you were to do it after buying several locomotives and lots of rollingstock. I always try and buy my couplers at the same time as I purchase a locomotive or rollingstock. Do you have a layout? If you do not feel free to post a design in the layout forum where our design experts are sure to give you lots of positive advice. Once again welcome to Trainboard.
Hello Don, welcome aboard! It is always exciting planning and building a new layout. Folks here will help with ideas and advice as your layout progresses, and maybe help you avoid some pitfalls. (My wife says we seem to do more dismantling than building!). Microtrains couplers for everything is the way to go. I model the modern era, but realise the shortage of good n scale steam locomotives. Hopefully this will improve in the near future.
Welcome aboard the Varnish Don! We all here have our own sides of the hobby and do our own thing.. Out of it all though, WE HAVE FUN! If you don't learn anything in this site, with the HUGH family of model railroaders, your sure to have a good laugh at a few of us! Again. Welcome aboard!
Welcome Don, You will enjoy this Board and you will see that we come from all points of the compass. I am from Oz and wish you well in the world's best hobby and don't be afraid to ask for help, many experienced modellers out there eager to assist. Happy modelling Malcolm Collett Glandore (Adelaide) SA Australia The mighty B&O and its successors.
Don, Welcome to Trainboard. You will find that this forum is a great place to visit, but be careful that you don't get so engrossed here that you forget to work on your layout! I just sold a Golden West model of a Union Pacific CA-3 caboose to another fellow from Peoria, AZ. I'll send his name and address via email in case you are interested in contacting him. You may already know him. N-joy,
Don, Greetings from the shadow of Grand Mesa in western Colorado! It's always great to welcome new folks to Trainboard. I'm a recent re-convert to N scale myself, and really appreciate the quality of diesels available, as opposed to the crap in the 1970s. As to your eyesight, I'm 45 and wear bifocals, so putting M-T couplers on my stuff is gonna be fun (this is what I keep telling myself) Hopefully, if we N boys keep the pressure on the manufacturers, we may get more steam. Feel free to ask all the questions you want- one of us will have the answer. Highball!
N scale is going to see at least 4-5 steamers in the coming year Those anounced are: DCC ready Bachmann 2-8-0 Kato Mikado Re-Run Con-Cor Daylight MDC 4-6-0 Con-Cor S2 Re-Run The Bachmann steamer is supposed to be the same quality as its HO counterpart www.bachmanntrains.com click on latest news [ 15 November 2001: Message edited by: sd9043mac ]</p>
