I ran into more than just a rumor about the infamous Cab Forward AC-12 in N-Scale no less. Intermountain is suppose to release the Great one not long from now. Look for yourselves. The N-Scale Division - Main
Enjoy I'm placing mine on Pre- Order but through Fifer Hobby. The provided link is for the picture and news found.

It probably won't be 'officially' announced as a definate product in 'N Scale' for a while yet... and may not be available for a couple of years. I'll withhold my celebration until I see it on the store shelves. ;)
IIRC... I 'sort-of' pre-pre-ordered one about a year ago... when the first rumors were announced.

The notice says that the reservations must be received by the 28th....that's tomorrow.....

Kind of limited timeframe. I wonder if this is merely an attempt to test the waters and see the kind of reception that this item would generate.

In any case, what kind of weight would a "reservation" carry for an item that the manufacturer hasn't even announced...let alone given a delivery date!?!?

Also, the retailer is stating that, "Your reservation is a firm purchase commitment." There is no delivery date, and no price... Something isn't right with this whole thing.

I give this advertisement/catalog listing the same level of "belief" as I do when my daughter says that she will get her room clean.

    (rolling eyes)

ps. Do you think that this item will be available by the end of the decade? I bet the bookies in Vegas would have to give good odds on this one to get any takers.

We have not received any word from Intermountain regarding an imminent Cab Forward release. I have a call in to our sales person to see about it.
If they are going to release it we will carry it .... but again this has come up several times over the past couple of years with no product release.
I will post to this thread once I hear back.

    Hey Grandpa Joe!

I've been keeping track of this release for awhile now. I had an opportunity to see the drawings at the Milwaukee Trainfest last year. I understand we should see something by the Fall/early Winter. But, being in manufacturing I understand things happen especially these days with China. We've had to navagate around huge price increases and rolling delays without much of an excuse. I guess they have embraced good old Capitolism at the expense of customer service. I think we'll have a better handle on the release by NTS?

    Cheers

    Joe

There has been NO official announcement nor any unofficial announcement from any owner or staff member at IMRC that could in any way justify taking reservations.
When the AC is announced, it will be available to all IMRC dealers.

Guys, This thing is years away if it sees the light of day at all. I definitely wouldn't be holding my breath as to when/if it gets released.

Yeah, Frank mentioned it during a presentation he made in January at the Plano, TX train show, but there was definitely no firm information other than "it's coming". He did kinda hint to something like Q2/3 '09 if I recall, but don't hold me (or him) to that. There were a lot of questions flying around about release dates including another run of the HO version so I may have my wires crossed.

According to Intermountain there is no official announcement on the Cab Forward. All is speculation at this point. If and when there is an announcement all dealers will be notified.
    Keep wishing!

May be that Athearn could jump in and do it. Apart from some issues with the DCC sound decoders they made a good job of the Big Boy and Challenger.

How can N Scale Division virtually say "get your reservation in and commit to buying one by the 28th or you won't get one" when IM themselves don't know when it will be released? I can't say I've heard of them, has anyone dealt with them?

As for IM, their F units are great, I've got another three winging their way across the Pacific, (they could couple closer though) but after seeing the touch and go quality control on my SD40T-2's and SD45-2's I'd be waiting to see the cab forwards and read a few in depth reviews no matter how desperate I was to get one.

I'd get excited about this, if anyone other than Intermountain announced them.

    Well, except maybe Model Power.

I do like Intermountain's freight cars, though.

    This is a pre-announcement announcement, announcing the pre-announcement, pre-announcement.

But it is not an official pre-announcement announcement, announcing the pre-announcement, pre-announcement only an un-official pre-announcement announcement, announcing the pre-announcement, pre-announcement.

There will be, at an official time, an official announcement officially announcing the official pre-announcement.

This will be followed by an officially announced official announcement.

I don't know what you call it but was I the only one that saw the announcement in the back of the march/april issue of N Scale Railroading mag???? in the Intermountain section they state they will be starting on tooling after some Chinese holiday and that they hope to have them out by the end of the year.

Sounded like more than a wishful thinking to me, but I could be wrong.

I certainly hope it will be better than the HO version. Beutiful to look at but doesn't run worth a darn.
