Just received an A-B-A set of the low-wave C&O Railway shells (F7's). They are gorgeous!

Anyway, the original plan I had was to adapt them to standard Athearn frames with new Poto motors.

After I ordered these puppies, I got to thinking... will the Intermountain Shells fit the Athearn Genesis mechanisms? Are not the Genesis F7 shells made by Intermountain?

Just want to look into this before I go spring for 2 or 3 Genesis F7 frame/motor sets.

    Thanks........

I hadn't heard anything about Intermountain making the Athearn shells, tho that doesn't mean it's not true. I don't think so tho. Intermountain makes mechanisms now, why not buy theirs?

You are correct. Since I posted, I looked up Athearn on the web, and it seems the Genesis F shells are from Highliners.

I was told in a hobby shop that Intermountain possibly made them... but it is Highliners.

I may look into the IM mechanisms. My original intent was to utilize some of the standard Athearn frames I have hanging around my work bench.

    Kitbash,
You wouldn't have any dummy F-7 frames with trucks by any chance? I need 2 of them actually. And if nothing else I would buy 1 powered if you would want to part with one at a hald decent rate if your not going to use them. I have 2 F-7 B bodies that I need frames for, one powered and or both dummies.

Then on another acount, I have 2 powered E-8 B frames with no bodies! HA! Just like me too, The ones I want to get done I can't seem to find the bodies too.. I want to custom paint a passenger set of B&O E-8's, an ABBA set... I got the 2 A units, and I have the B unit powered frames. :D :D

I know I have one Athearn B frame. I may have two. I shall check the multitude of boxes and see what's in stock at the "Kitbash Shoppe" as it were.

After I pondered the issue... I found and purchased the Intermountain drives direct from Intermountain. So, I wont be using my A frames.

If you need multiple B frames.. Athearn.. they can be ordered from Uncle Willies (Walthers). If I have them.. I will part w/ them just to clean out my "stock".

Acutally (someone correct me if I am wrong), I think the frames for Athearn A and B units are interchangeable?

    I will check... stay tuned.
