I have an nscale layout. I would like to add a small intermodal yard to it (since most of my cars are intermodal). It will be in the front of the layout, so I can get away with out having parking, plus I can run a track to the end to show that its only a small peice of the yard.

I have about 10 feet to work with (lenght) with varible (width). Will I need yard leads like a regular yard or can I get away with out them? Any pictures of model, intermodal yards with be good. thankyou.

Most IM yards around here that I've seen look like enormous parking lots with a few parallel tracks running through them or stub-ended. If you can, use GoogleEarth or the hybrid Google maps to look at Cicero, Illinois, a large IM facility on the BNSF (Clyde Yard). Wood Street Yard (Global 2?) on the UP is very close to Clyde also.

If you don't have a lead, you'll be fouling the mainline. That's ok if that's what you want, but most prototype yards have leads.
