I was browsing through the Fallen Flags website, I found a couple of things in the UP section that gave me pause...and a tear or two. First, a couple of WP GP20s in the dead line in Salt Lake: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/up/up-stored-ak.jpg And then, WP GP35 #3020's cab and low hood on a UP loco. I'm curious about this shot, as a book I have lists 3020 as renumbered 798: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/up/up-lwrk-c.jpg [ November 08, 2005, 03:21 PM: Message edited by: E-8 ]
Long story short. WP had a run away on the Reno branch, or UP did right around merger time. Anyway they were WP GP35's and had major body damage. UP rebuilt them, using parts from other units. One had a WP long hood, MP cab and UP nose. The parts were removed and set there on a unit heading for scrap IIRC. I'm more curious about the GP9 with the headlight blanked out and no number boards. A slug maybe? Greg
John, I edited your post to reflect links to the photos as we do not have permission to use bandwith from George Elwood's site. Folks can click the links to visit the site to see the photos. Charlie
It's not your fault John, George is just funning about bandwidth sometimes even if you give credit to him and/or his website when you post images like you did. Other sites such as mine ( http://www.trainweb.org/dhvm/ ) and Clint Chamberlin's ( http://www.northeast.railfan.net/ ) don't have this issue as long as you are not actually doing "Reproduction or redistribution" of the JPG files themselves; and give some form of credit to the site / photographer with your post. You will find on Clint's site many of George's photos also and Clint stores a thumbnail on his site which if you click it opens up the image from George's site to make him happy. That's why when I'm looking for images from the NE section of the US that are not D&H I tend to first look at Clint's site. He has "Over 15,000 rail photos, with focus on Pennsylvania and the North East" with a solid search function to find photos.
