Insulated Joints and Gaps

    To create a block/zone, say to isolate a spur, can you just run leads from the tracks from one side of the gap to a toggle switch, and then back to the other side of the gap to create a block/zone out of that spur?

    Yes. Power to the spur will be dependent on power being at the main line, of course but, you can do that.

    It would be better to run power through a switch directly from the power pack, however.

    Yes. You only need to do it for one rail, using a SPST switch.

    It all depends on your application.

    If you are doing the old style analog control for two power packs then you have to run two wires from the toggle switch and run two wires from each power pack to that. Hope that makes sense. But for a single dead track to park something on, one wire is fine.
