OK everyone, I need a little help here. I know that many of you may assume that I know all about the Lake Cities train run by the Erie Lackawanna given my name:p But I actually am too young to have ever had the chance to see it running.

I just love the name of the train and I've grown to like the EL over the last year or so. Can anyone answer the following questions for me?

First, where did the Lake Cities rank in terms of famous passenger trains of the time?

Secondly, what was the standard trainset for the Cities? I hope to model it someday on a layout, so I'd love to know what it usually consisted of.

And lastly, does anyone have a timetable or listing of stations served by the Lake Cities? I know the origin and terminus for it, but I would be interested in finding out what it served in between.

Thanks for the help anyone can offer. I know it's a little much to ask, but I am hoping to learn everything I can about this train. Besides... I wouldn't want the memory of the Lake Cities to fade out!;)

First LC, It is never to much to ask, secondly welcome to Trainboard. I will answer these questions to the best of my ability. The Lake Cities as it shown in Chicago Oddeessy Videos (Green Frog Productions) Is a fairly short 6-8 cars Mail, RPO, Baggage Coach diner and possibly sleepers. Here is a great site for what you are looking for. It's actually quite interesting, I wish Every railroad had a site this comprehensive

Once here Scroll down half way for Lake Cities, However, if doing a layout, read the other info, it gives quite a bit. BTW As you scroll, and see Passenger time tables, trains 5/6 are the LC. The Time table half way down is the last published in 1960.
    Have fun.

    Hey,
The Phobe Snow & Lake Cities ran out of Hoboken,N.J. to Chicago,ILL. Lake Cities was the faster train because of the route it took. Miss Phobe was the famous one.
A pair of E-8's led the consist. Larry DeYoung has an EL series of books. You can find them on eBay.Very informative books. Volume 1 & 3 are the best. There is a new book coming out very soon.It will be on passenger service on the EL.:shade:
