    Try google!

This is CP's yard in the east end of Toronto:
    CP Yard - Toronto

I know it isn't CN, but it can give you some ideas.

Here is CN's yard on the west end of Toronto:

    CN Yard - Toronto

Click the links and go nuts. They're a pretty good sized to get some ideas.

I notice that your country flag is Canada. One book that may have information of interest is "Last Trains from Lindsay" by Keith Hansen. ISBN - 0-9681215-0-0 You may be able to get this book via inter library loan. I know a couple of modellers who have used this book to plan yards etc.

The book covers rail lines in the Lindsay ON area. Most yard descriptions have copies of the original CN yard plans and air photos from the Ontario archives. Keith is also planning a book on the Northern Alberta railway using the same format.

If you are interested in yards that are in use today, you can get a rough outline of the yard by going to the Canadian National website www.cn.ca and click on "Network map". By using the zoom feature you can get close ups track diagrams of most major yards. Once you have the location, you can use the other web based programs like Google earth.

When I was planning yard layout, I used the layout design discussion forum on trainboard.com, and I also made use of the search function.

If you are looking for historical information,

    HTML:
[I]Requests for archival and genealogical information should be sent to Library and Archives of Canada where CN's archives are located. CN's historical collection forms one of the largest, single record groups there (Record Group 30). Company records go back to Canada's first railway in 1836.

Depending on the nature of the research required, it will take about six or eight weeks to provide a response to your inquiry. You should contact Library and Archives Canada through their website at www.collectionscanada.ca or call their hotline toll free at 1-866-578-7777, extension 8. You may also mail or fax your request:

For historical information that is of a technical nature about CN and other Canadian railroads, you may also contact the library at the Canada Science and Technology Museum, by email or by mail or fax:

    Hope this helps.

Was there a specific area of interest that you wanted more information on?
