how do i make these incandescent bulbs blink . i bought a blinker thingy but it only works on leds not incandescent bulbs. i have two sets of these . but if i cant make them blink then out they go. N scale of coarse . they light up when i hook them to 6 volt battery. there nice an bright , but i want them to blink like real rail roads. what can i do or (easily build im not that good at electrical stuff and i dont wanna fool with putting leds in these either ) ????? i cant add pics what the heck man ?????????
Building a circuit or buying one ready-made will cost more than your bulbs are worth. I found a simple flasher circuit in a c.1974 book I have and it requires three transistors, six resistors and a diode, and you have to build the thing and provide a power supply. You may be able to find a more modern circuit using a 555 Timer IC as its cornerstone. I'd set your bulbs aside and adopt LEDs.
there road signals at rr crossing. it wont let me post pics without having to put them on some other site first. si i don post pics
You don't need to upload your photos to another site and link to them. Click the [Upload A File] box that will appear on the lower right when you create or reply to a post. This is a great feature at TrainBoard that I really appreciate. Many websites don't offer this. You can also create an Album here.
funny i tried that and it did not work before. ha ok so here they are my signals . i have 2 sets of these lil buggers. and these is what i want to blink like the real deal. oh and Thank You
i just use these cheap ones from ebay .. no sensing of train involved .... but LEDs do work better .. and just a little easier ... thy take 9 to 15 volt in, drive two or four leds ..
there certainly are ways to simulate an incandescent bulb warming up, and dimming down, as it blinks, using LEDs and electronics. but it would be quite cost prohibitive per crossing signal set. IMO, just blinking LEDs, without the incandescent simulation, would be the most cost effective simulation. I love how some layouts are super-realistic, but if the signals didn't blink realistically, i personally don't think it would detract from the result. ~Travis
