George Elwood's site is truly amazing. Somewhere there he has some pretty good comments on acquiring the pictures. He now has many pictures taken by others, but, originally, most of the pictures were taken by him over a 20 year period or so. I remember this because he said that Espee had the worst company policies for picture taking with the friendliest employees once you got on the property. Great website.

For those interested in another source of pics, I ordered a CD-ROM on EBay last week that has 100+ FRISCO high quality slide scans. I haven't seen any of these before so I felt it was a good buy (plus I guess the proceeds go to a model railroad club)

The seller has a lot of other roads in their list of auctions.

    No affiliation.

    Best Regards!

Pics are nice, hi-res 1024x768 -- received the disc today. There's some REAL dirty units included reminiscent of SP (you'd get the impression that SLSF didn't believe in washing the GP35s or GEs... totally black roofs, lots of grime as if they hadn't been washed in years [IMG] ) Also included are some fresh paints.

Anothing thing I like is that if you're modelling a yard you can get some reference ideas on how to weather the tracks & "trash" it up for realism.

Mike, I've seen the U-boats as they accelerated out of Afton going north to Ft. Scott- when the engineer opened the throttle, a cloud of black smoke would come boiling out of them. Add that to the propensity of GEs to leak & throw oil, and you come up with a grimy unit.

And the U25Bs and GP35s had been rode hard & put up wet by M-day as well. The newest of either model was15 years old or more by then.
