Just pickeded up two C-630s. Each equipped with a Lenz LE063XF Universal decoder.

One of the function of this decoder is ‘Directional or complete Rule 17 lighting effects’.

    What does this mean?

Can someone please shed some light on this for me.

    Pete:

I'm going to move this over to the DCC forum. The topic will get more exposure there.

Directional refers to having the headlight operate only in the direction of travel. I believe Rule 17 dimming refers to the dimming of the headlights that the prototype does when meeting another train.

For rule 17 lighting effects, the headlight is dim when the loco is running opposite of the normal direction of travel (NDOT).
