Minor question. A while ago I bought some IM 8,000 gal tankcar kits. I'm finally getting around to assembling them. One of the first steps is to glue the brake gear triple valve to the underframe. Only it's not real clear from the directions, or real obvious from the model itself, just exactly where this is supposed to go. That is, I can't see any small location hole.

I know generally that it needs to go near the air resevoir. But even looking at the other small tankcars that I have (the M-T 39' and the Atlas 11,000 gal) there's enough difference between the brake gear component arrangement on the three tankcars that it's not obvious.

My fallback option is to either just go ahead and glue it somewhere near the resevoir, or just leave it off. Only by using my optivisor :shade: can I even see this part. I doubt that in operation that I'd miss it if I just left it off or recognize the difference if it were in the wrong place. It's all just kind of a black mass under that car.

Anyway, anyone here assemble a few of these who can point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

    Ed

On Top of the Reservoir Tank

Ed M.: It has been a while and I don't have the instructions, but I put the triple valve on top of the frame above the reservoir. There are teensy, tiny holes there for that purpose as far as I remember. Maybe it was a couple of ridges on each end of the triple valve assembly so it would sit on the frame. Here are my pictures of that.

    Hope this helps.

Perfect, and thanks for the photo to boot!

And you also answered my unspoken question regarding safety placard color at the same time!!!

Ed (okay, back to the workbench.......)

    Hazmat Placard Colors

Ed: The placards are colored based on what you are carrying. I used red because I believed that was the gasoline, diesel fuel, etc. I have most of mine that color, but I just use green, blue, yellow, etc. for variation.

    Placard colors.
