I'm attempting to learn where on their system, a station named "Storeroom" was located. Somewhere around Edwardsville? Springfield? Or?

    Boxcab:

I worked for them for a short time in Decatur, IL where the railroad's shop was located when there was electric operation. Later, after diesilization the shops were re-located to Federal, IL down by East St.Louis, IL.. I am not sure if there was a Storeroom station at Federal but there was a storehouse at Decatur.

Not sure if this clarifies or confuses the issue.

    Barry-

Something I've been doing these past four decades, is collecting train orders. All through my life, so many friends were operators, agents, dispatchers. One of them got me started...

I have recently acquired an ITRR crew copied at Storeroom. Crew copies so often being sloppy, the body is difficult to read. It's two in one. Run extra Storeroom to (name looks like) "Staley?" The second part annuls trains 303, 306. At least that's what the lightly written pencil seems to show.

    Boxcab:

Just got home from a long trip for a funeral and wedding but at this late hour I have this to offer.

I wonder if the name of the station is, like you suppose, Staley?

It would make sense because this was the first station west of Champaign, IL where the IT left the the IC trackage through Champaign and got on their own track to operate to Decatur.

    This might be a possibility.

Answer received from their Society- Decatur.

This is a favorite aspect of the collecting hobby. I enjoy chasing down these copying places. Whether an established office, or crew copies. A person can learn quite a bit.

Apparently this building still stands, and is used by that county.

There is a lot of terminology that does not appear in official literature. When I lived in Poughkeepsie (1979-1984), there was a Conrail team track in the "CNE yard" on Smith street. Crews refered to it all the time on the radio. I doubt the name appeared in the employee timetable, as the Central New England was merged into the New Haven in 1927, the NH into PC in 1969, and PC into CR in 1976. The line connecting the yard with the CNE main disappeared sometime in the '30's, if I recall. Someone finding reference to it today might have a hard time locating it. I doubt it even exists any more.

    Congratulations on finding your answer.

Although it could be viewed as a sad reflection concerning "progress" as some pretend, I have found that collecting those old papers is a fascinating pursuit. The old-timers are getting pretty thin. Over the years I have enjoyed hearing about these places they still know well. Which nobody following them will ever find.
