Where should I locate an Ice Platform and Ice House. As a stub in the yard? Or placed on line as train is leaving yard? Were the Box cars "iced" before the perishables were loaded?

I got to tour Nampa Yard in Idaho some time back with an NMRA function, and the Ice House and Icing platform were located at the back side of the yard, furthest from the main, yet the way the yard was laid out, it was a straight shot in and out. That arrangement allowed a pretty long train to get iced.

I have mine located in the back of the yard up against a wall on a stub end. It's 24" long and I can get about four cars in at a time to ice. This set up allows for a little more switching being done! You can fill four cars, pull them out , and bring in four more. :D
