Hey, everyone. I'm in another fix: I really want to start operating my layout, but even my Spectrum 2-8-0's are a bit finicky at really slow speeds, even after constant tinkering. I have an Atlas SP GP-9 that's been to hell and back and was even accidentally left exposed outside for a couple days...and it STILL runs silky smooth with no maintenance.

So I was wondering... I've always wanted to model the SD&AE's blue & white GP-9 chop noses from 1983, and diesels would run much slower and smoother for delicate switching, so would it be worth it to get another Atlas GP-9 or two (to kitbash and paint them), some 80's freight cars, and a late SP caboose? I can still keep my SD&AE steamers and run them as SDRM excursion trains out of Campo. Any thoughts?

Here's what the GP-9m's look like:

Go for it!! You could also mix in some SP GP35's and be running smooth and looking great!!
