And this is part of what I did:

This is a gift for Karin Schwarzer who sent me a DVD of Emperor Of The North, my favorite movie, along with a pic of her and Loren Snyder next to the Rogue River in Oregon, after they had rode the real #19... without Shack! I love that movie!

It's good fun to play Hookey now and again!:shade:

    Robert,

Could you post more pics of your layout and structure. If they are posted elsewhere just post the URL. Thanks in advance. What you posted here is very impressive.

    Robert,

    Two questions.

What are the Z scale dimension of that Alaska gondola?

What techinque / material did you use for your roads near your tracks in the photo of the Alaska gondola?

Both the gondola and box car are (as usual) fantastic!

Hi John, the gondola is .5" wide and 3.545" long on the inside, scaled per Northern Pacific drawings of the Pressed Steel car.

The roadway is just Woodlands Scenics paste road product that you mix up, and spread with a spatula, then sanded and painted with Woodland Scenics Asphalt paint. I just rubbed ballast over it with my finger to make it look dirty.

    Robert,

Thanks. I was just curious on the gondola. Not my era but looks really cool!

Thanks on the info for the road. I was thinking of using the Woodlands Scenics paste to make my roads but I was unsure. Most of the roads in the area of Western NY that I am modeling (1880s-1890s) were dirt and narrower than modern day roads. Any suggestions for making dirt roads?

    Merry Christmas!

    John

You can use the same stuff to make dirt roads, then paint white glue on top, and sprinkle real dirt on top. When dry, mist with water, and sprinkle even more real dirt.

When dry this time, just rub your finger over it in the direction of car travel, and it will make a light fine powder that fills in the fine cracks, and look great!
