You can also upload your photos into Google Photos or Photobucket or ??? and then "Insert Image" from URL (just uncheck the "retrieve remote file" box).
Google Photos (easily) allows you to select the size the photo appears on the forum (Photobucket does too, but it's more of a PITA).

Files in bitmap (.bmp) format tend to be quite large (large as in several megabytes and large in pixel dimensions as well). Files of such a large size usually aren't allowed as uploads to discussion forums. I don't know the maximum file size allowed on Trainboard, but if you try to upload bitmap files, you could easily be exceeding the size limit.

I have a very small layout, and when I export the trackplan as a bitmap from XTrackCAD, it is more than 8 woo woo woo -- too large to upload to Trainboard. I use an image editing program (you can use "Paint" that is included with Windows) to re-size the .bmp file down to 700-800 pixels in width, then save it in a more efficient file format, such as .JPG or .PNG. You can then attach the smaller file to your Trainboard post.

Uploading to a free site such as Google Photos or Photobucket works well, too. You may still want to reduce the file size somewhat before uploading.
