Rick, precisely my feelings about Athearn's entry into N scale. They would be fools to do otherwise, and I don't think they are fools
I would agree. They've likely been listening and reading. May have noted more than a few gaps they could fill. I also hope that they've noted the comments concerning the limited quantities/build to amount pre-ordered philosophy that shuts out some of us. And can some way do larger runs. That will give small budget RR's, such as mine, a better opportunity to buy. Especially if it's a unit that we'd like to have several of on our roster. BoxcabE50
I am cautiously excited too.Another manufacturer is only a good thing.I don't expect the price to be much diffrent then Atlas and Kato, who knows, maybe they will cost a bit more.....but it is simple.... if they are not on par with the new loco's out there, they won't sell, but we'll still have other manufacturers who have the quality we are looking for.(that said,Yippee,Athern has seen the light!)
Ads are one thing, announcements are yet another and yes, I've seen the ads), but actually seeing Athearn N scale stuff at my local train pusher's will be the proof I am looking for that Athearn is dead-on serious about making fine-quality N scale equipment. Until then, I reserve my judgement on Athearn's entry into N scale, and leave the speculation to others.
AHHHHH come on Friscobob, speculation is fun and it is free, and it could be a while before we actually see the stuff. I hope so as I don't want to have to pay for the stuff I have already put on reserve before Christmas (trying to get the layout up and rolling). I am hoping it comes out around Feb or March of next year. However, if I was an exec at Athearn, I would recommend it come out around the end of October and snatch up all the Christmas dollars.
