Does anyone Know of any sites dedicated to Logging Railroads.

I am modeling the 1950's and am looking for pictures and ideas.

I have already visited Paul Templar's sight.

Thanks for any ideas in advance

    Eric-

What kind of information are you looking for?

Perhaps the best logging website out there right now is http://www.steaminthewoods.com Lots and lots of photos, but most are from well before 1950.

I have a website up about the railroads of McCloud, CA, at http://www.trainweb.org/mccloudrails The main focus of my site is the McCloud River Railroad (1897-1992) and the McCloud Railway Company (1992-present), but I also have stuff on the McCloud River Lumber Company (1896-1963). This operation was one of the biggest in California for most of the 1900's and was an active log hauler up until 1963.

Be sure to check out http://www.the-gauge.com another free discussion board...one of the forums on that is called The Logging Line, and a recent thread on it had links to literally hundreds of logging related sites.

Get yourself a Yahoo membership and sign up for the 4L (Loyal Legion of Logged-on Loggers) e-mail list. Nearly 1000 members, and nothing but discussions about logging.

There are several hundred books that have been written about loggers, but the two best general ones are Logging Railroads of the West by Kramer Adams (long out of print but readily available in the used market) and Railroads in the Woods by John Labbe and Vernon Goe, still available from Oso Publishing (http://www.osorail.com). There are two quarterly magazines about logging railroads published, Tall Timber Short Lines by Oso and Timber Times (http://www.timbertimes.com). Will cost you about forty bucks a year to get both of them, and they complement each other nicely.

If you are interested in west coast logging, be sure to get yourself copies of the January-April 1984 issues of Railroad Model Crafstman...four part series on pacific coast logging railroads. January covered the general history, February covered the steam locomotives used, March covered the Steam Era rolling stock, and April covered the Diesel era.

Feel free to contact me on or off list with any questions you may have.

Tell us a little about what you have in mind (motive power, region, size of operation, etc.) and I might be able to give you specifics for resources on what you are interested in.
