New member and new to Model Railroading. I'm a 50 year old Navy Vet who works in the IT Industry in Branson MO. I was born and raised here and did a hitch in the Navy after HS. I've been interested in trains since I was a youngster, but never really had a way to really explore this. On a whim I picked up a auction lot of Model Railroad stuff, N scale, and am now exploring this. I'm a bit limited on space, so while I'm learning all I can, I'm messing around with small shelf size switch puzzles/layouts and planning a 3x5 layout for a main line. I am also afflicted with the gold disease and am an avid kayak fisherman. Look forward to learning a lot. Lee
Hi Lee, Welcome to the TrainBoard, happy to have you on board. Looking forward to seeing how you create your "empire".
I came through Branson in 1992 and again in 1994. Some interesting modelgenic locations in your neighborhood. Your neighboring town of Hollister with its small sample of faux-Elizabethan architecture and a small steel truss street bridge. A charcoal plant near Branson... Wonder how much of that is still there? Wonder how much I thought to photograph?
Good to meet you, Lee. Growing up just outside St Louis, always figured the Ozark region was one of the most beautiful areas around. Good luck with your new empire!
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I've left here several times through the years and I seem to always make my way back down here. KC for 5 years, Ft. Myser FL for 3 years, and LA for 4 years and I still wind up back here. I must admit though, when I hop in the kayak and meander down a local stream, flyfishing, you can't knock the smile of my face with a sledge hammer!!! Kenneth, Hollister is a very unique spot. There have been a lot of changes in the last few years. 2 street roundabouts and a new lower street bridge from Hollister to Branson. the steel bridge in Hollister over Turkey Creek has been replaced by concrete. But the Branson Scenic railway is in full swing during the season. And the Charcoal Plant is still there.
